if you don't open an account before basic, they will open one for you. it will take a little longer to get the card and the deposit to got through because of the papers being processed through.

I'm guessing that you mean a bank acct for your pay? In the Marine Corps we were given documents to sign for making a checking acct to receive our direct deposit in boot camp. You have a choice later on but I believe the initial bank acct will be with Fort Sills National Bank (FSNB). Good luck

That is in the first week. Everyone that doesn't have an account will set one up. No problemo

If you're talking about a checking/savings account the Air Force requires you to have an account set up before you leave for basic training. I think the rest of the branches are the same. All pay is direct deposited into that account.
