The only way he MAY be able to come home for the birth is if he is authorized to take his two-week R&R leave when you are scheduled to deliver. This is usually done around the mid-point in the deployment. If he's only going for six months, he won't get one of those though. They are only for personnel who will be deployed for more than six months.
On a side note...
- To the person that said something about "better planning"... yeah, you're retarded. Planning may have little to do with it. Sometimes you just get screwed regardless of how much planning you've put into something.
-To the person that said the military only cares about the soldier and not the familiy... you are also retarded. The military spends millions of dollars on family support programs. You have obviously never been in the military.
I wish people would only open their mouths about things they know something about. If you have no experience in the subject the question pertains to...just keep your mouth shut.

No. But he will get head of the line priviledges when he gets back to see you and the baby with all the other guys who have new babies. Woman have babies everyday while their husbands are deployed. They don't come home. It is a big thing to miss, but I guess better planning would have had him home for the birth of his child. |

It depends how long he has been deployed.
The military will tried to get him home if his unit can spare him. They will not make a promise to do so.

One thing you realize the military doesn't really care about you. The only thing it cares about is the soldier, and once you realize this, it will be easier for you when he starts missing out on your childrens life if he chooses to stay in the military. |

It depends, what branch is he in? Army, probably not.Air Force,much better chance. Not sure on Navy,Marines or Coast Guard. |

usually those who come home have been gone for awhile. unless your hubby gets a leave than he prob would not be there. however you know they have showed births via web. good luck |

Not usually, but it has happened. My cousin got to come home and they considered it part of his mid point leave. What worked for him though he was already in country 5 months, and he's an Officer so I'm sure that had something to do with it. I do know that they worked around the due date when scheduling his leave from the AO |

It probably wont happen. But to give you an idea that a friend of mine used. She was able to bring the pod cam into the delivery room when she had her c-section (which was scheduled). Her husband was able to watch his son being born and was able to comfort her with his voice. The baby was able to hear his dad's voice also. My advice is to get pregnant and enjoy the time that you do have with your husband. |

Well, I guess we all know now that Steven C is not military and never has been.
Having been military, and having spent over 2 years overseas, we try to get our guys home for birth, if possible. Sometimes it's just not feasible. But when issues came up with our soldiers' families back home, and they weren't scheduled to go on leave for a few more months, our soldiers pulled together to trade leave dates to allow people who really wanted to go back home right then to do so.
Like I said, doesn't always work, not always possible. But it did work fairly regularly. That's one reason I didn't get around to going home until I'd been in-country for 11 months - others needed it more.
Good luck, go to the Family Support Group meetings. You're not the only one going through this, and I know a lot of wives of deployed soldiers who ended up being close friends for life because they went through the whole single-pregnancy/birth thing together.

It's very doubtful that he will get to come back, unless there is a serious risk to the mother or baby during delivery. Alot of mothers have had to give birth alone while their husband is deployed. It's always worth trying though, just be prepared to be told no. |

What I've seen in as a Navy spouse is that if you have a family friendly command they'll try to get him home for the birth. But even when they try they can't always make the duty schedules support anyone leaving.
Your best bet is to be prepared to give birth with help other than your husband and then hope for the best. |

sometimes. if you have problems with the pregnancy they usually allow it. and it depends how long they have been gone....
having your husband gone is usually not so bad. i did it :D
if you work it out to where you get pregnant right before he leaves then you would probably give birth over R&R then he would be there. |
