I'm in the USAF Reserve right now, and before I wanted to become an officer and retire in the Air Force. But after seeing how sick the culture of the Air Force is, I'm quitting after 6 years. Six and fly baby. Six and fly.

I'm also in the United States Air Force; Security Forces actually. If you do your research, you'll know exactly the backbone of this career field.
Now let me tell you a few things. I'm in the career field of the AF that has the highest divorice rate, highest suicide rate, highest deployment rate, etc. etc. etc. And I know exactly what you are talking about, BUT, you have to see it another way. In the military, what do we do? We do our jobs in USA, and we do our job EVERY WHERE ELSE. When we are gone for long periods of time, what happens? People get lonely, and things start to happen.
You are saying AF here, but the AF deploys less than any other branch, and for the shortest amounts of time. Except my career field ofcourse...Which deploys every 5 months if they don't ship you out before that, for 7-13 months. But I have tons of Army friends since my base is connected to one of if not the LARGEST Army base in the world, and I actually KNOW, well actually, every single Army marriage I know has had cheating in it. I won't go into details...But let me tell you this, that base also has the highest murder rate in all military bases.
You can pretty much see why. But let's not get confused about this, you are being insecure. You're pretty much saying the force is not worthy of your prescense because of the cheating. But what are you going to do about it? Leave. So what if it does, it's not you, let other people do what they please, but as long as the mission gets done, then what's the problem?
Let it be, do your thing and be faithful to yours, that's all that matters, don't let it get you down. Be all you can be, in the AF. ;) |

Sorry to hear of your unfortunate experience. However, I think your generalization is unfair. In my experience, the vast majority of the military are honorable and upright people who would not cheat on their significant others. |

Oh yea, like everybody out of the military is so faithful. 6 and fly baby cause you can't hack it, not because there is more cheating going on in the military then any other job out there.
And besides, if you really wanted to make the military a better place and you were really concerned about the cheating then you could still become an officer and you should know that cheating is punsihalbe by military law aka UCMJ. I have known people to get demoted for cheating on their spouse. It is not something that military should be taking ligthly and if you become an officer then that is something you could change. |

Not all of them cheat, and they are human just like everyone else. There are two types of people in the world...those who cheat, and those who don't. Those who cheat always will and those who don't never will. |

Sounds like you do not want to be in the USAF in the first place. If you using an excuse of someone cheating (deals with personal life more than anything) to leave, you mustn't want to be there anyways.
Besides, you want real discipline, join the Marines. They will provide you everything you need to know within the first 13 weeks.
But in the end, people are people, and look how many men and women cheat in other areas of a job. No one quits their law job because someone down the hall is cheating on their significant other. Judges do not leave the bench because another judge, they may or may not know, is cheating. Teachers do not quit because the janitor is cheating. If people are going to do it they will. Sad but true. Six years down the drain over something like this. I say there is more to it than that. |

It doesn't matter if you are in uniform or out of it. People cheat all the time. Because the military is such a small community, when it happens, people think that all military marriages are like that. It has nothing to do with discipline. It has to do with the type of character a person has. Some just have a hard time being in a long term relationship and therefore cheat. I highly doubt that the reason for you seperating from the service is due to "other" people cheating. Thats possibly the stupidest reason I've ever heard for someone to end their career. |

A lot of people in the military cheat, at least partially, because they spend a lot of time away from their spouses. It's the same with truck-drivers. If their spouse isn't there to catch them, they think they can get away with it.
If you're making a life changing decision like ETSing just because the people around you are scum-bags, then you might want to conisder being a monk. People are scum-bags everywhere. |

Alright so because there are a few nasties in the military, you are ready to just quit? Sounds a bit like a sorry excuse to me. What the hell did you join for anyways? Good company? College money? HA! please... I've heard more of military personnel getting cheated ON, rather than the other way around anyways. Going on deployments and everything, the civilian "significant others" get all lonely and start banging best friends and random strangers, then when we get back we find out our "significant other" is 3 months pregnant... when we were gone for 8. |

They don't all, or always cheat . Military discipline and personal descipline and intregity are two different things . |

I think that if you're basing your decision on serving in the military off of the actions of others outside of the work environment, then the military doesn't need you. Seriously, because OTHERS cheat, you can't stay in? What does their actions have to do with your own? If you don't want to cheat, then don't. Just because others do shouldn't effect you at all. Also, if you've found that the others you're dating cheat, then I'm sorry for that, but not all people in the military cheat. So you've met some bad people. Guess what... they're everywhere! In the military or out, people have and will continue to cheat. Sorry, but you're not going to be escaping anything by leaving. |

Your assertion is BASELESS and an over generalization... I think it's no more prevalent than in the general population.
I served 15 yrs in Uncle Sam's Canoe club and saw VERY FEW MILITARY people who cheated... and those who did were shunned (at least in our community).
As a Division Officer I had ONE person under my supervision who got caught cheating with another service member... they went to MAST for an Article 134 and were given a BCD. I also had TWO who were in our Department who cheated on cruise, word got back, and they got lowered marks on "professional responsibility".
OH, and just FYI, I never cheated and never would or will. |

There are cheaters in all walks of life. In the military, a lot of times, people get married too soon, they marry people they don't really know and then they don't see them for 6 months to a year at a time. That's rough on a person who can't cope with that sort of sacrifice. But rest assured, all over the country, in every occupation, there are cheaters. |
