I don`t think the U.S. pick fights with people who are evenly matched. I have spoken to some U.S. soldiers in my travels and they always speak very highly of the skill level of British and Australian troops in Iraq. |

Dont forget the Americans have NEVER won a war on their own...
Our army is better trained, the SAS is recognised to be hugely superior to anything America can offer and most of our army isn't full of gun lovers...
and hey... atleast when the Americans shoot our troops they'll be getting it right this time.
PS - To the mook who said America is the only superpower... erm... try for once picking on a country your own size and p*ss china off, china is a sleeping giant, whoever wakes them... beware...
and 1776? worth mentioning that you had AID FROM THE FRENCH!!! that little number largely gets discreetly bypassed... and in effect England withdrew from america to deal with the Irish situation (we're still working on that one btw)
pps - I forgot to mention, most yanks are fat anyway, so all we'd have to do is retreat about 100 yards and the yanks would all have heart attacks chasing us. |

I have worked with the Americans in Iraq on 2 different occasions and they think that we are the most professional and best trained army in the world. Give any YANK 20 rounds and he will kill 1 person. A British soldier would kill 20 then attack more with just a bayonet. We all know the Yanks would already have run away by then. They think we are crazy too! Thats co we can shoot straight and never run off. |

The US has a much larger military, but the UK military is much better trained. "The Americans have the equipment, the Brits have the know-how" is how I've heard it described. What's more, the two countries have different national characters; contrast the stoic "putting up with your lot" attitude displayed by British civilians during the Blitz, with the mad reactionary panic displayed in the US after 9/11. The UK could persevere and hold out for longer.
There is also the economic impact to consider. More US dollars are traded on the London stock exchange than anywhere else on the world. If this were to stop, the US economy would grind to a halt, and the US government would be fighting a war on two fronts; one against the British, and another against its own starving riotous citizens.
Then, there's also the little point that if the US declared war on the UK, it would also be declaring war on the rest of the European Union, in which case it would, beyond a shadow of a doubt, lose totally. The US has never won a war on it's own, even against a military force which looks vastly inferior on paper, so it would certainly be defeated by a larger, better armed force (and for all those going on about the American War of Independence, you'd all be British still if it weren't for the French and Spanish helping you out).
So, given all this, if the US government declared war on the UK, it would be one of the last things it ever did.

You guys could destroy us. i was in the army, i see the unefficiency, and the fact that we are spread thin across the world already really helps. You would have to blitzkreig then fortify quickly, but i think it can be done. |

It would be an interesting war. I think the Brits would win by boring us Americans to death. Of course, because our American females fancy Englishmen, obviously, the Brits would have an edge in intelligence by woo-ing teenage American girls on myspace to give coordinates of where the American soldiers were camping out.
Let's face it, it wouldn't be pretty. It would be a war as tasteless as London Pub Food. |

No....simply put the Yanks far out number us and also have the best equipment but we do have a Sh*t load of Nukes to spoil their day with and if you say that the Yanks killed every British Citizen you'd be looking at around 50 Million if we dropped our Nukes on every major city in the States I recon we'd win on numbers.... |

The strength of the U.S. military is overwhelming. There is no way that Britain could win by strength alone. But take a good look at who is currently running the U.S. Congress. If the war would take place today, the U.S. would defeat themselves through partisian politics and indesicion. |

We would beat them easily in the battle field of "Geography" provided we chose a team from the "fiftees" not todays numb-skulls, however, we must do it now, as they are quickly learning, that others occupy this planet, and where they are. |

That would be interesting but i doubt the Us would go against britain. Partially cos we guys is frends lol! Britain has easy acces with its sister kingdom, Canada and also the entire force of the commonwealth and EU support so i really doubt that america would win. I doubt this would happen though! I think the SAS would probably have shot all the congress men and taken the white house before the US had realised they were at war! Oh and also the queen would probably declare all her kingdoms against america meaning we could blow any american city up with jamaica and other carribean islands being kingdoms of elizabeth the second. Also the combined wealth of thher kingdoms in like three times thatr of the US's economy! The european union alone could enhilate the US add that to britains commonwealth allies and the countries that the US have pissed off declaring war on britain would be a foolish thing but i spose america wouldnt be america if they werent doing foolish things! Oh yeh india is in the commonwealth and britain is in the EU and they are both emerging superpowers so i say bring it! |

Aren't we allies? And the fact is that no one would be able to answer that question. Both countries have a nuclear arsenal, and most likely the next war between two nuclear countries would be nuclear in scope. So would there really be a winner?

I have a buddy in the Canadian army and he talks about the training that the Canadian Amy puts them though and how it is way more advanced then the U.S. Army... Maybe that's why Canadians don't shoot at their allies... but to answer your Question: I think that Britain would win, the U.S. has pissed off more people then British and more Counties would side with Britain...
