If the draft was in effect, and you were forced to fight a war that was immoral, would you do it?
Find answers to your legal question.

If the draft was in effect, and you were forced to fight a war that was immoral, would you do it?

The other option is to run. You can run, stand for what you believe in, or you can go to war, because of the embarrassment that you may feel due to family, friends, etc. What would you do?

NAZGUL
Stand and Deliver Troop. I Served during the Cold War, and if drafted I would Serve Again, the Morality of war is not an issue, the Morality of how you as a Soldier preforming Your Duties is. All who Serve with Honor, Dignity, Morality, and Die a Good Death Will be Remembered by Those Who Count and Shall Share in the Glory of Valhalla and Dine with the warrior King Odin.

Who gets to determine if the war is "immoral" or not?

There is no such thing as an immoral war. Moral considerations have nothing to do with the fact of warfare, although they can apply to how it is waged.

I believe in our constitution, so yes, no matter how much I disagree with the war.

There are "moral" wars? Who decides which wars are moral and which ones aren't? Oh wait, I know this one! The liberal!!!!

They wouldn't take me, but if my son had to go and fight, I'd encourage him to do his duty.

I don't believe we are in any immoral wars right now, so if they would take me at my age, then I would go back in.

If you are a man ages 18 through 25 and living in the U.S., then you must register with Selective Service. It’s the law. If you fail to register and/or run from the draft if it ever was reinstated you are not only breaking the law, you are a coward. The only embarrassment you will face will be with yourself, that you are not a man and can not live up to your obligations.
However, I say that if the cowards want to run...let them run. Go to Canada, Mexico, or wherever, just do not plan on ever coming back. I would consider it a resignation of your citizenship.

River Rat Vietnam
You sound like the hippies back in the Vietnam days. How do you define an immoral war? Do you have all the intelligence that the Joint Chiefs or the president have? Was Vietnam an immoral war? Was Korea? Was WW2 or WW1? Is the so called war in Iraq immoral? How about Afghanistan? When the US invaded Cuba for the Bay of Pigs, was that immoral? How about sending in our troops for the hostages in Iran? Was that immoral? If the draft is ever reborn, then you will have the same choice we had then. Chicken out and run, refuse to go and go to jail, register as a conscientious objector and maybe get some dirtly little job for two years here in the US, or fight for your country. From the sound of you, I hope we never get the draft. We who volunteer can defend you while you stand and debate. We've been doing it for years

Go to jail. My uncle did during Vietnam.

If my country asks me to do something for it in order to protect what I hold dear. I go. I did go. I'm too old now but I would happily go.

Can't really answer that because of my age. But there is the conscious objector status and volunteering which means that probably you do not end up at the front.

But hey, who am I?

This country has come to a time where most of the people do not want to fight for their country. In WWI and WWII americans wanted to fight for their country and belived in what they were fighting for. now if u dont want to their are ways to easily avoid fighting. my mom said that if there was a draft me my brother and dad would fly to canada. the thing is we have money so we wouldnt fly commerical airlines we would fly a private plan to ensure our exit out of the country.

ebmid2
No.

Also, if the US was on the wrong side of a war, you could always fight for the other side. But no American does that (except that one guy, I guess) because the anti Iraq war people are all talk.

Run Forrest Run! I used to beleive in our policies. Not any more. I spent 20 months in Vietnam.

flee the country

Ahh_Sweet_Boredom
I have dual citizenship with Canada, so I'd be going that way. I have far too much integrity to support in ANY way the war that's going on.

I'd run away to Canada.

Wait, I'm already in Canada.

I'd run to Mexico.

My family and friends know me well enough to know that I have no place on a battlefield.

So yeah, I would run like the wind.

oh?
Hell no... thats why u shoot urself in the legs or something...
