Even when the British were the greatest Army and Navy in the world, they still ended up losing two wars to the U.S. The Revolutionary war - United States won this; The War of 1812 - United States won this too. The U.S. has always recognized a need to be allies with Britain, even after the Revolutionary war was over, we immediately wanted a peace treaty and wanted to be allies with them. There is no way we would ever go to war with Britain, though. Our cultures are very similar.
The U.S. has always been the type to find whatever way possible to make the other country submit or surrender. The British have always been too polite almost to the point that they don't care who wins as long as they look good in the process. Read about the Revolutionary War and you will see this...of course, the British have changed their tactics somewhat. Even still, I think the U.S. would win. |

Obviously it will be the US. Britain is no longer the World superpower it once was. The UK has a fraction of the US population and spends nothing compared to the US in terms of defence. If the two were to go to war the only chance the UK would have of even reaching a draw, would be to use nuclear weapons.
However, the idea that Britain and America would ever go to war is preposterous. |

The US without a doubt. If British troops invaded the US they would not only be hampered by the military but all the civilians who are legally allowed to carry guns too. |

What a ridiculous question. It will not happen.
If war did break out, it would be far more likely to be against France and Germany. Have you read Harold Coyle's "The Ten Thousand"? Hardly probable, but the scenario shows some possibilities. Check out the protests at the French-owned Dacia car plant in Romania.
If I have to answer your question, I think the US would finally "take" the UK, but prove utterly unable to hold it. The British would make Iraq look like a child's game. Believe me.
Edit: USMC Cadet Whatnot: "The UK doesn't have a standing army"? WTF do you think all those people in Afghanistan and Iraq are, who generally end up doing the jobs your lot are too soft to manage - as proven by the US inviting the Paras to Baghdad last Christmas? |

US has more manpower and equal if not better technology, and more nukes.
by the way
So what if you have James Bond, we have 10,000 Green Berets.

Are you kidding? The U.S. spends more money on its military than every other nation in the world combined (yes, that includes China) We could easily defeat any other country militarily. |

As an ex-member of H.M.Armed Forces, it pains me to say that the US would win. Over the last 10 years or so, the Labour Government has reduced expenditure on our Armed Forces making it now a shadow of what it used to be. You only have to read the stories from Afghanistan and other places about lack of equipment etc. This Government seems to despise it's fighting forces. What cannot be taken away though, is the guts and determination of the men and women who follow the colours despite this lack of leadership from the very top. GSTQ. |

On the basis that the UK army is less than 90,000 men (less than would fit into a decent football stadium) and the US army is currently about 2.5 million it would be a bit one sided!!
Also the combined American airforces are about 70 times bigger than the UK airforces, and their navy is about 30 times bigger.
Finally because their government cares about its armed forces all their equipment works as well and they dont have to share stuff like body armour between two. |

It wont happen, it can't happen... We need each other more than ever now. We need to quit questioning each others intentions and stay on the alert for every one else. When they attack either of us, we join ranks with tanks, trains, and planes, and kick some *** like we always do at this time... Forever Britain and U.S. |

It'd be close. America's main advantage would be numbers. |

The US would win, but it would be an ill day for the US when we are forced to fight one of our most reliable allies. |

Kind of a no brainer, there is absolutely no match up in military might, resources and population. Think Britten would make a poor colony. |

What a stupid question. The UK would lose five minutes after the US opened the envelope with the declaration of war in, and stopped laughing. The UK is incapable of fighting a war with anyone in Europe, let alone with the US. Years of neglect, the meanness and never failing pig ignorance and imbecility of the damned politicians, the wretched state of our armed forces, all mean that we would lose if we went to war with Monaco let alone the US. Grow up for Pete's sake, and stop trying to stir up trouble. If it wasn't for the US you, and everone else in Europe would be speaking Russian now, and don't you forget it. |

When you really think about it, in the general process of war, nobody truly "wins." One side might do better than the other, but considering there are still atrocities.. I don't think anything about war involves victory. |

U.K. obviously, we are now part of the European union, that includes half of Russia, Germany ,France, Italy etc. Our common wealth countries are Canada and Australia and we also have the worlds most obscene nuclear warheads, rather unlikely scenario, don't you think ! |

One word: nukes. One nuke would take out most of UK because of radiation. But that war would never, ever happen. |

The United Kingdom doesn't have a standing army so it would be hard for them to organise a army quickly to attack. UK would likely stay on the defense if that happens. But like alot say, might and might never happen.
Nothing is impossible. |

1) US OWNS UK in almost everything, navy, airforce, manpower, armor, artillery, etc
2) We got Chuck Norris, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Steven Seagal, Mr. T, Jackie Chan, and Jet Li and all UK have is James Bond |

The US would win but the repruccussions would be strong. There is the small chance that one of Britains nuclear bombs would reach the US and get past our Patriot missiles. Although if they did that then we would send them back to the dark ages. We would leave nothing alive then. We would suffer thousands of casualties but would win just because of the fact that America has better technology, better and more soldiers and that we have a stronger economy.
Another big reasonis that our soldiers and a little bit of Britain are the only soldiers that have true experience on the frontlines. Many of our soldiers now know how to deal with insurgents.
So the US would win but we would lose probably around 50,000 soldiers in the process which is a lot for the US nowadays. |
