That's just enough time to get it on one more time as wildly as you can. |

its just a flash of light and you die instantly, at Hiroshima there was even the shadows that got burned onto the streets and pavement from people and buildings |

It would depend on where you live, some would have more time than others...but the end result will be the same. |

Dont worry- with a short warning time like that, you won't know and won't panic. |

The missiles are so fast they get to the target within minuites
of being launched and its better to be at ground zero that surviving the attack a poster above said turn your back which wouldent work
First there would be a massive bright flash brighter than anything you would see this indoors as well because its gamma rays and they go through walls most people would be toatally blind
next would be a massive wall of heat hotter than the sun vaporising everything near the centre and burining everything else up to a few miles away
the shock wave follows after that smashing everything down
and if you could survive all that you have to deal with the radiation |

I only have one thing to say....
NATIONAL MISSILE DEFENCE SYSTEM!!!!!! |

but that would be little unfair to the people who do want to know and had a chance to actually safe themselves. But I know what you mean. |

its because by the time the missile launch has been detected and confirmed by NORAD and the ballistic missile early warning system at RAF Fylingdales, we would have a maximum of 4 minutes before it got here. If its launched from a submarine were well screwed!! |

those american patriots in places like wyoming that every body calls cranks, heeded the warnings years ago. |

i am sure that it would be longer than a few minutes, unless it was coming from the Pacific countries. i think i would want to know. the range of a country in the Pacific can reach Illinois but would effect the entire county, i thin being in Ohio i would want to find a cave or a large concrete structure. if we get a 3 min. warning i would have another 15 to 20 to react. |

It's not a matter of ''if'' anymore it's ''when'' now |

if you lived in the outer suburbs you could make some preparations, like turning your back to the city to protect your vision. a nuclear explosion is so bright it can blind you. also if you know what has happened you can go to your kids school, and leave town... remember the Internet would probably be destroyed, radio wouldn't work... so at least you'd know what happened. |

we would not feel anything cuz we all will be dead! |

I live in Southern CA. Up until the split of the USSR there were approximately 30 nuclear warheads that targetted various Southern CA points of interest. (military bases, populated areas, ports, business districts, airfields, airports, command stations, etc etc). It's pretty safe to say that 30 nuclear warheads would kill EVERTHING in Southern CA without exception. Everyplace in Southern CA would be ground zero! And nobody would know what hit them. |

I agree, whats the point in a 2 minute warning, its not long enough to drink ourselves into oblivion. (which is what I'd do if I had enough time)
I wouldn't want to know it was going to happen. |

The 2/3 minute is the trick to get you want more minutes---------then get you want the missile defense system. |

Even if there was a warning, we would still be dead. |

They would definetly try to shoot it down first. |

Probably not the military would try to keep it classified so we wouldnt go into panic. Then probably try to intercept it, if it did get here, we would probably have 45 seconds notice, from the time we saw it whizzing by in the sky. |

To make sure you can expose yourself to the blast and die instantly instead of a slower more painful death. That's the problem if you live in the suburbs. :) |

It might be nice to have enough time for our folks to get a fix on where the incoming was coming from so that we could get our outgoing going to the right place. |

Really depends where it hit, the yeild and wind direction to be fair. Having spent 3 months on courses learning how to nuclear fallout clouds and how to keep people alive in the event of that type of disaster i kind of get excited on questions like these lmao. Any more questions fire them my way lol |

I think it would be more than that. I recall hearing at one time that it was figured Los Angeles would have warning enough to fully evacuate the city in only 17 minutes. That would have been a feat.
If it were 2/3 of a minute warning. It'd be given so your government could show you your taxpayer dollars at work before you get blown up and die. |

We'd be ******. There wouldn't be a safe place to go. I would probably just panic and cry. |

agreed! The general public wouldn't be able to stop it anyways so in terms of massive panic only the people who would have a chance to stop should know. |
