If you join the military, can there be any guarantee, because of you job title, that you won't be sent to war?

The U.S Army Reserves now offers an option that precludes you from serving in Iraq or Afghanistan for a period of 2 or 4 years. You must enlist in a MOS that is currently offered this incentive, enroll as a full time student and maintain a 2.0 GPA, and your unit commander must accept you into the unit under these conditions. After this period or if you do not meet the minimum college requirements, you are eligible to deploy to OIF or OEF.

That is kind of like asking, "Since I live in a big, powerful, rich country like America, should I assume that I am guaranteed safe from foreign attack?"

Of course not. But joining the military means you are serving on the force that prevents or counterattacks the threats to our civilians. Not serving just makes you one of the sheep.

No, once you are in the military you a property of the United States. there are some areas of the military in which you will not be soldier. Such as if you are a musician in the military band..then you just go around and do shows for the public as well as on bases.

The Army, Navy, Air force, Marines is the war machine for the United states. When you enlist , you swear to follow the orders of the president and the officers above you. The ser vices is all about going to war.

why would you join a military who's job is to go to war....if you didnt want to go? its not all about free medical and a paycheck twice a month.it involves your scarifice.whether you going to war or your life..you have to be prepared to give both

The purpose of the military is to go to war and defend the country. That's the whole point of it. So, no, if there's a war you will probably get sent.

All MOS's deploy. You may not actually do your job while you're deployed because they don't need that knowledge...but they can sure as hell train you for a job they DO need out there.

Some guy we knew would never be deployed because he distilled water on Camp Pendleton. But, I"m not sure why you would join the Marine Corps if you didn't want to be in infantry. It's kind of silly.

or why do you want to join the military? maybe you can try to join the military of other countries, like France. but it's not a guarantee....; it's less war there and they hire foreigners.

Everbody here seems to think not. It is odd that civilians know that no job title is exempt from deployment, but one of the guys who ran to Canada believed he was.
