and then tell them aid has been suspended and unless their regime steps down the military bases and gov't buildings and people would be next....

No, just cut off foreign aid and let the eat their missles. North Korea is one of the poorest countries in the world. The government treats their people worse than dogs. The is no work for the population except the military and the people are not allowed to know about world affairs. If the world cut off aid one of two things could happen:One, they would have to agree with the UN or two: that crazy leader just might push the button and blow up the world!! Either way North Korea is in big trouble.

No, they lack the technology for ICBMs. It's estimated that it will take another 15 years before they have an operational ICBM. Perhaps, at that time, they would be place in a 'launch on warning' status as we do with Russia and China...

That would be an act of war, and they have plenty of military and artillery. You must solve this problem with talks, and if that doesn't work, you must use tactical warfare. I remember that we tried to fight North Korea once and the war never ended. It was a mutual withdrawal. They have so many people. They are like robots. They wake up everyday and thank the national leader for the rain, the sun and the beautiful day. Those kinds of nations take over large ares of the world, judging by history. I don't think we need to screw with them. Obviously we can't submit to every war mongerer that goes aroung throwing big rocks at us, but you don't pick a fight with the biggest bully in school either, unless you've been taking their crap everyday. It will take alot of time to assess the threat and determine the best measure of eradicating this problem. Meanwhile, it's just talks and diplomacy.

If i were the current U.S. president I would evaluate the threat from North Korea and promptly begin to wage war against someone else, all the while uttering cliches from sports and action movies; also i would be functionally illiterate and tone deaf to the political climate of those who "elected" me.

I would make a televised speech that would go roughly as follows:

North Korea continues to make pathetic displays of aggressive behavior. China, Russia and the UN are impotent and refuse to take serious action to curb this rogue state. I will therefore warn North Korea and its dictator that it can test any missile it wants, but that the US will evaluate any such test and if deemed to be a threat to the US or its allies, we will act accordingly to protect our interests. North Korea thinks it can project military might to scare the world. The US will not be blackmailed. North Korea can cause damage in its region, but it does not know the meaning of real strength. It should know that North Korea and its antics exist, because we allow it to exist, but that will not go on forever. We will defend our allies and we will defend ourselves. So North Korea can launch its firecrackers, but it should know that,when the time comes, if it does, we will crush that third rate nation like a bug, while the UN diplomats are trying to decide which empty threat to hide behind.

Such an action would probably provoke China. They would get really worried about a strike that close to their soil. Not a wise decision.
