If you were conscripted in a real war for you country, would you go no matter what the reason for the war was?

If you were conscripted in a real war for you country, would you go no matter what the reason for the war was?

Even if you conscientiously objected?

What is wrong with you Americans?! I wasn't even speaking about that - it's not the only country in the whole world - you two should get a clue.

No, I would not go.

I do not believe in taking human lives for political reasons.

Here in the US, we seem to go to war for nothing other than the governments entertainment.

We shouldn't have to be the watch dog for the entire world and keep sticking our noses where they don't belong. If the US told me I was required to go to Iraq, or pretty soon Iran, as you know they're already trying to condition our minds for the attack on Iran, I would apply for citizenship in another country on grounds of political asylum.

***EDIT***

Whats wrong with us americans? You weren't even asking about that? You asked our opinion about going to war if we were drafted. That was your question, and it was answered. If you don't like our answers, don't ask the questions.

king
No doubt I would.

If they paid me,.. yeah suppose so,.... I don't deny it; I'd be scared ****less,.. but yeah, I'd probably go.

Big Jimi
Yes I would!!

Trollhair
Excuse me. But those people....who could be you are fighting for a way of life. If you were in Iran or China do you really think you would have the freedom to criticize the government like you are doing or have done? No, your butt would be in jail. Don't wait, enlist. The military does have jobs for people who are very firm about killing others. Desk jobs.

Chloe
Get a clue - we are in a "real" war. If one signs up for the military for personal gain such as education, and then they are called to war, yes they should go, for whatever reason. If they are against any type of military action, then they should never sign up for military. As far as a draft goes, each person would have to decide if it is worth the fight to stay or go. I think that maybe this is the price that we must pay, as our forefathers did, the price for living in freedom.
Perhaps like some countries, military service should be required of everyone, including women in some position.

if i didn't believe in it no, my life is more important than a greedy politician!!!!!!

Great question and one that needs carefully thought out replies,
I for one would volunteer anyway because I have been in the services because I wanted to give back something to my country.
What makes the question more interesting is would all these refugees and asylum seekers here in the u.k accept having to fight for this country, this really applies to all countries.
There will always be cowards, these are usually people who think its right to attack ordinary folk going about their business, and the pansies who just don't want to because they think war is wrong, of course it is wrong but if it happens lets get on and deal with is.
Those who do not agree should be made to take part in other ways,we all have an obligation to look after and defend whats right, again that's not saying war is right

No. But if the government in my country was democratically elected, then I would. My role is to vote against their policiesat election time.

?
I would no longer give my life for England as I believe it is no longer the England my forefathers fought for.

i wouldnt go if it was for money, land, etc... however, if we were being invaded and had to protect our homes everyone should then fight even the pacifists to save ur homes...

Have done it in South Africa. If you enjoy what your country has to offer you then best you go. Who's head is on the coin. Try and work through this no matter how you feel. Many times you can change situations from within. Do not let fear rule your hart my friend. Good luck.

sarcasticquotemarks
No, I wouldn't and they couldn't make me.

Barry Von Leotard III
No I would never fight in a war. I would rather go to prison.

Jellicoe
That would make me the third consecutive generation of my family to fall for that one and I ain't that stupid. They told my grandfather and father that they were fighting for a king who wouldn't have pissed on them if they were on fire; a way of life which only existed on a chocolate box for them and couldn't give them somewhere to live or a job when it was all over.

These men were expected to fight for a way of life that was about abject poverty, disease-ridden tenements, unemployment and starvation. Even today, the veterans of WW2 are taunted by yobbos, sneered at by liberals and abandoned by their government.

If you think I would lift a finger to fight for someone else's cause, you have another think coming.

Flint
If it looked like I was going to get drafted, I would probably volunteer for a different service branch - so that I could get a job that I wanted, as opposed to doing a job that they wanted me to.

That having been said, I feel that it is ones duty to serve - especially if called up through draft.

07_ShelbyGT500
Yes, of course.

tearsofthemoon00
If I had enlisted then I would go because thats what I was being paid to do.

My answer is the same as Socrates' was. Paraphrased: I live in this country , I drive on the roads ,accept its protection , drink its water , eat its food therefoe I have accepted its laws. I would , by honor ,have to fight for it.

dirtyharry7717
yes been there and done that Afganistan,(2001) Iraq(2003)
thanx for the 2points

revolution is brewing
hell I'm in the states and I am tired of them too. I would go though. If I was younger I served during Vietnam and I would have waited in line to serve now but I am to old. The people on here from the states that said no represent the worst America has to offer.

It amazes me each day the people who enjoy their freedoms and rights, but are so unwilling to protect them. They'd rather sit back and let someone else do it for them. It's sickening. I don't care if you believe in war or not. If your country is attacked and should just happen to start a draft, it's your duty to protect that country. My how cozy it must be to sit behind a puter with total lack of respect for ones country or those who serve it.

buffy Fan
no, not if i didn't see a point, there isn't any point risking your life for something you don't believe when there are so many other things to risk your life for.

Only if they were coming across the English Channel, North Sea or Irish Sea.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to voice my opinion on subjest dear to my heart.
Everyone wants the freedoms that their country has to offer no matter which country it is. But they want someone else to defend their rights to have those freedoms. It isn't the preacher or the reporter or the flag burner who gives you the right to those freedoms. It is the soldier.
I think that EVERYONE regardless of gender should have to serve in the armed forces. It isn't a popular opinion. But everyone owes something to their respective countries for what they do for them everyday. But this is a 'what can you do for ME' world. And people just don't want to do anything more than what they have to.
FREEDOM ISN'T FREE!!!!!!!!

Pretorian
Yes...I expect the benefits of living here, so I should be willing to pay for it. This normally means paying my taxes etc but if it meant the military I would do (well I have to be frank). You can't expect the same answer from Americans by the way...if they are really unlucky they could end up in the US Marines (Read that as you want to!)

I have a personal conflict between loyalty to the country and hatred of the government which makes this a very difficult question. The answer is probably no. I have no objection to killing the Queen's enemies but the idea of being a surrogate GI has no appeal.
