Ah, this nightmare scenario that will never happen.

Think about it a minute. Here's this guy in a newsroom that just got a wire from the AP's correspondent at the Pentagon saying that ninety bazillion nuclear warheads were incoming from somewhere, and would hit in two minutes.

Do you seriously think he's going to stay behind the microphone for thirty seconds to tell YOU? Or is he and the crew headed for the cellar, leaving you tapping your radio or searching for another station?

Who, exactly, do you think is going to tell you about it before it happens?

Oh, and I'd probably grab the cellphone, battery operated radio, and all the water I could carry. I'd whistle once for the dog, but after that, he's on his own, too.

nothing cuz the nearest bunker is a good 10 minutes away and there are about 4000 people between me and it. I reckon I'm just going to have to get heavy on the suntan lotion. Oh and chat up the first woman I see.

Two minutes is not long to take anything of significance, if you've already prepared, you're bunker is filled with things you would need. If you're in a city larger than 100,000, then your goose is cooked and not much to worry about. If you have have 28 minutes warning...get out of the cities...forget the bunkers!

The agony and barbarity that would follow a full-scale nuclear attack is not something one would look forward to.

I am of the age group that lived through that fear constantly during the height of the Cold War.

The Civil Defence expected us to take a stirrup pump, enough food for a fortnight, enough water for a fortnight, a complete sewerage system, hundreds of black plastic bags and rolls of sticky tape.

The bags and sticky tape were to hold Windows together should a 50 megaton bomb go off in your front garden.

My answer would be several good books, and just wait to see if I died or not.

I would also like a gun; so that the first Government type that knocked on my door expecting me to be his or her slave, gets the bullet right between the eyes.

unfortunaltely i live really close for the head operational command for the war in iraq based in mcdill airforce base Tampa FLorida so i doubt a bunker would do me any good but i'd bring my firearms, ammo food and water plus any and all communications device i could find, oh and i guess my family and loved ones, and maybe my laptop just because it has images of all my paintings and who knows maybe the net might still work. but i really think if we ever get hit nuclear there would be a following invasion, simply because we havent had a war brought to us in a very long time and it might be effective so think a little about that as well
