I must admit that i would like all our troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan but i admire any soldier who is out there and doing his duty.. British troops are the best in the world, and never let anyone tell you different. As to the idiots who shout abuse and in some cases have attacked military personnel then they should be ashamed of themselves. |

JD you have my whole hearted respect and admiration as do all our troops, you are all hero's and deserve to be treated as such, you fight without question to protect us .i feel for the families of loved ones that are serving abroad, but they can hold their heads high with pride,if it wasn't for people like you i don't know where we would be..and someone should tell this government how bloody lucky they are and to treat you all with a bit more dignity and give you everything you so greatly deserve.so my absolute best wishes, good luck, health, and happiness.take good care hun xx |

I admire anyone who will stand up for their country and put themselves in the firing line to protect the rest of us. I cannot condemn enough any idiots who would attack any of our armed forces - don't they realise what a mess we would be in without them? Many of my family members are in the forces, my dad was an RAF officer. I am a presenter on BFBS Radio and have the highest regard for our forces. Good on you. We all rely on men like you. |

I respect anyone that is out there doing good for people such a policemen, doctors, teachers etc.
I may not respect what your being asked or the reasons why you are asked to do them, but that is not to be confused with my feelings about you and who you are and what you have assigned your life too.
I admire the fact you have an instinct that I dont have ...to put your life in line for people you neither know or will ever know and who's only connection to you is the soil you and they were born on. |

Having completed some 30 + years in the Royal Navy, I am of the opinion that the servicemen of today need all the respect that they can get. Good on you lad and just get out there and do your duty. I wish I could go around the bouy and do my time again. You live in difficult times and just be proud of the uniform you wear and what you are doing. Godbless you sunshine. You are worth your wieght in gold.

please forgive the scepticism but many come on here claiming to be something their not,if you are what you say you are then fair play but i think your question should read along the lines of what do we think of the British soldier in general as no-one on here knows you as a person, your 20 years old and fully trained and in the UK,that tells me that you have just finished training and waiting to be deployed to a commando unit and if that's the case go for 45 commando,no point in being in the ROYAL MARINES unless your with the best,i also think that the British public on the whole fully support and respect all British troops worldwide myself included but there will always be the odd nutter who thinks otherwise and that's because they couldn't do the job of the British soldier in the first place,go forth young man and do the job your trained to do safe in the knowledge that your a ROYAL MARINE and that no-one is better then you,my father served 22 years in the ROYAL MARINES and i served 23 and his words to me when i went on my first active service deployment was do your job, keep your head down, and come home safe,i say the same to you, good luck. |

Yes we respect you, and are glad to have your support.( give me a Brit covering my *** any day, and keep the french away from my ***) The thing you must realize is that you most likely will only here from veterans and military folk in this forum. This means that the media view of the U.S., and the view of the anti-Bush freaks won't be given. |

First off I am a yank. I have tons of respect for Brit, Canadian,
Australian, and Polish soldiers they have done a fantastic job in a quite messy situation.I also think the Dutch are doing a pretty good job too. As for British soldiers in my opinion you are some of the finest soldiers in the world. You are top notch fighters as well as professionals. You come to are aid even when sometimes are leaders act retarded. I believe if the UK and U.S. stick together nothing can defeat us. |

Hi jd
My Son is also a soldier and i can tell you that respect is what you should have for your self do not expect it from others
As for your being in the army well done it is not so easy as people think to be accepted its quite rigorus just to pass the requirements they put through so well done. As for your fighting abroad that was your choice of job when you took on the army life you can not ask what others think as they will all say no you should not go, But if you were a lorry driver and you boss said that he wanted you to drive abroad you would have to or get sacked. In the army its not so easy you go where that want you to go end of story good luck to you.

JD, more people care than you might think. I respect all our brave service people, although I don't respect, or agree with, the Politics that involved us in the conflict in Iraq. My heart bleeds for every single family that has lost a son, brother, husband, daughter, sister or wife at the hands of these savages. Personally I believe we should bring all our troops home safety and explore alternative methods of dealing with Afghanistan and Iraq. |

Where I live the army marched through our town recently and they got a standing ovation from the public, who have nothing but respect and gratitude for our armed forces.
Well done mate, and I hope you have a long, safe, and successful career no-matter who or where you are. |

Respect to you and all the armed forces personnel. You do a stirling job under the most difficult of situations. Anyone that shows any member of the worlds finest armed forces disrespect does not deserve to have the protection that they provide.
As for fighting abroad, you took the Oath of Allegiance and are following it so no problem there.
Its also pleasing to see that reading the answers before mine, that on the whole thay are behind you.
Keep up the good work, stay safe and remember to play hard and work hard. |

Of course we care about our troops, what we resent is a war that the majority of this country didn't want, it was forced on us by Tony Blair and his cohorts. It is wrong to take it out of the soldiers who serve in Iraq, it is the government that should be getting it in the neck not the troops. |
