i was wondering when i get deployed how close would i be to combat

Hello, I'm currently a Field artillery automated tactical data system specialist, AKA 13D.
You will be stationed in a FOB, in country right with your 13 bravo's and your 11bravo's. But the good news is that you will have your own FDC section with all your equipment inside.
Its a combat arms Mos, so get used to being treated like a smarter version of your gun bunny brothers. |

Don't be surprised if you get tasked out to 11B or 31B duties. If you only have a couple guns on duty at a time (or none) don't expect to be sitting in an FDC waiting for an imaginary fire mission. Expect to do escort work, gate guard, base security, presence patrols, etc. |

If it was old style force on force, you would hear it, but you would be protected and not fight directly because you are the brains of the Artillery. If you are having to shoot, there is something seriously wrong. Your job will be to tell the guns what and where they need to shoot based on what is passed from the forward observers.
In insurgency operations, your MOS doesnt matter so much anymore. If you are in battery, you may end up driving a truck like the 13Bs. If you are at a battalion or higher HQ, you will be on the base running the computer, and not go outside. |
