The original language of the Bible says "Don't murder," not "Don't kill."
God authorized many wars and said murderers are to be killed by the hand of man.
Anyone who actually read the Bible would know these things.
Gen 9:6 Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man. |

I don't murder the enemy, I kill them. That is unless they surrender first. No sane person wants to kill another human being, however, there are times when some people just need killing. |

A basic understanding of the moral foundation is needed. There is a big difference between the murder of the innocent (Abel) and to smite or strike down an enemy...... |

I find the term "sin", as it applies to "kill" in the Bible, to be hypocritical.
God himself killed millions of people simply because he was displeased with their sinful ways (Sodom & Gomorrah, the Biblical flood, etc.), yet He himself is supposedly without sin.
So by those actions we can postulate that killing is not sinful.
But then in the 10 Commandments He goes on to say "Thou Shalt Not Kill".
So I ask, is killing not a sin if it is committed by God, yet if by man it is?
You cannot say "do as I say, but not as I do". |

All in all it's not a sin to protect your self. I look at like both sides are fighting for there countries so they are killing in self defense and that is not a sin. Aimless killing of civilians or innocent people however is. |

Thou shall not kill in the Bible refers to the greek word for murder. If you murder someone in the military, ie shoot someone because they pissed you off or for reasons other than defense yes it is murder. The Bible is full of wars. |

The translation in the bible for the 10 commandments is "Do not murder". There is a distinction here between "murder" and "killing". Even our own modern law makes the distinction between murder and killing (1st degree, 2nd degree, involuntary manslaughter). So when the government imposes capital punishment, it is the killing of someone who has been convicted, but it is not considered murder.
When you kill an animal for food it is not murder. Murder is when there is premeditation or especially malice intent. Even in warfare there are "rules of engagement" that one must follow. So I believe that you can be a soldier, and even have to face battle and kill but I do not think that is the same as murder.
Jesus came and said, "If you hate a person in your heart you have committed murder." Jesus always cared about the heart more than the actions, because our hearts will determine our actions. So the challenge is to become increasingly a person of love. Can you love your enemy? That is actually a harder question we must ask ourselves than is it acceptable for a Christian to kill in a wartime/battle situation. |

I know many good men, ruined by the things they were forced, obliged or ordered to do, during the course of war.
You may be in the "right" when you pull that trigger.......but you are still taking a life........and it bothers some soliders greatly.
Others, probably enjoy it.
Some get off on the power trip.
It's never anything to be proud of....but in a less than perfect world.........better him than me. |

If your orders are to kill in order to protect your country, no. To do so otherwise is. |

i think in the commandments it says "thou shalt not MURDER"
its jubious to some whether all killing is murder, but if someone is running towards you with an AK screaming "ALLAH AKBAR" i'd say you'd be morally ok, wouldn't you? |

The military have to follow the rules of engagement, if not you can be charged with murder. Then its a crime not a sin. Religion is right out the window in a fire fight - sin or not. |

that is a pretty touchy question, kind of inappropriate in my opinion.
you cant even begin to understand what goes on in Iraq and Afghanistan and what our men and women go through during there time there and when they get back home. |

Nope, not a sin, but it is an honor to kill the enemy of your country! When someone is in combat it doesn't count as killing. It's really fun when they are muslim ragheads in some far off land, but any enemy will do! Communist, Facists, Right Wing wacko, Left Wing Eco-terrorist, they are all the same and none are considered sinful to kill. So feel free to join up and kill as many as you can! |

See, I don't believe it's sinful in our situations. Actually, I don't consider those insurgents to be people at all. They may be human, but in no way are they humane. They've got no morals and will do whatever it takes to get their radical points across; they kill men, women, and children indiscriminately and in horrible ways.
To me it's like putting down a rabid dog; sad, but also necessary because you know they can never be fixed. If killing one insurgent saves even one innocent person's life then it's worth it for me. It's a decision that everyone must decide at one point. |

Are you trying to be clever? If so, you blew it big time.
The military is not a religious organization and makes no moral judgments so why would they list sins?

Yes, but you can go to confession afterwards to be forgiven.
No version of the Holy Bible ever said "Thou shalt not commit murder", it says "Thou shalt not kill".
It is wrong for people to alter the words in the Holy Bible to justify killing. That is what people like Manson did to justify killing.
The Holy Bible does not have a "10 Commandments Section", it has far more than 10 commandments. Did you know that eating shellfish, crab, lobster and catfish is a sin? So is sitting in a chair after a menustrating woman sat in it. |
