Is 17 to young to talke to a marine corps recruiter?

nope some people know at a very young age what they want to do with their lives..that you are considering the military is something your parents can be proud of ...you are thinking of others and service to your country..i realize its a job and a paycheck but the military really is a way of life..kudos to you

bbj1776
Not if that what you want to do. All I will say is to listen, take note, reach it, and think real hard before you sign anything.
If they tell you can qualify for a certain skill or training, get it in writing.

no,you can go delayed entry, but make sure you understand everything and whatever they tell you,get it in writing.

edit. get any promise in writing before you sign

Betrayed and Insane
Definetly not.. Sounds like you are about to graduate high school and inquiring about the Marines is a smart way to keep your options open about your future. Many teenagers join the military straight out of high school.

nope, you can enlist at 17, with parental approval

Karma
Not at all. I signed with the Navy at 17, and was put into a delayed entry program until I graduated high school. You'll just need a parent(s) to co-sign.

Heck, no! You have a question about the Corps? They have the answer. Go ask.

You don't even have to be 17 just to ask questions.

SMEAC
I joined at 17, your parents just have to sign.If they dont want to the recruiters are delighted to come to your house to talk them into it.

No, my husband joined the Army at 17 while he was still in high school.

katiotchka
DEFINETLY NOT!!

I'm 16 (for 2 more weeks) and I've been talking to recruiters for months.

Even if you don't plan on enlisting at 17, it's still good to have all the information when the time comes.

Kudos on even thinking about joing USMC.

I dont think it is. I commend you for thinking along the lines of becomming a Marine. Find out information as soon as you can so you can make up your mind as to what you want to do. Good luck to you.

nope, if you KNOW that you are gonna join , sooner the better

At 17 you can enlist in the Delayed Entry Program, with parental approval, and start looking at MOS's and career options. Also, you'll have DEP Poolee functions to attend monthly, helping you get ready for Boot Camp.

Check out the best online resource for everything USMC. And pass this on to your folks. http://www.marineparents.com

No, they can talk to you, but you can't sing anything without your parents/gardians permission

17 is perfect

Absolutley not!!
Is 17 too young to look at colleges???
I'd talk to a recuirter and make sure you are certain of your choice before you sign anything!!!
Best of luck!

No at 17 you are not, however you got to have your parents ok. If they are willing to sign you off then you are clear.

Misanthrope
If you are a typical 17 year old American, you are probably incapable of speaking polysyllabically. Fortunately however, most Marines are also only capable of speaking monosyllabically. Therefore it would be appropriate for you, as a 17 year old, to speak to a Marine recruiter. My response to your question is not the best since I used too many polysyllabic words and you probably cannot read this. Semper Fi!

I was pleasantly surprised to see mostly encouragement with the answers so far. There were a few giving the Socialistic Anti-American guff.

If you plan to enter the military after high school, get as much information you can so you can enter with open eyes. Talk to the recruiter, ask him/her what you can study so you can quickly pass the written tests you will take and have the additional time to spend on the physical crap.

If you know the general orders before you go in. you will have several hours completed before you walk in the door. If you can use a broomstick and practice the rifle drills, you will have even more hours to practice polishing boots. The more books you have completed before you walk in the door, the less stress you will have.

Basically, I want you to knock the stress level down from 1000 to 994. Go in Both smart and strong.

no, but do not sign up until you are 18. if you sign at 17 you are limiting your options.

I have talked to many different recruiters if you want open your email I can fill you in on a few things if you want, I plan on marine infantry myself.

there really is no point for delayed entry just wait until you are 18 so you will know if it is right for you. live a little then join do not just jump right into enlistment.

here is a fun fact, anti American factions are telling there followers to spread anti-war sentiment on popular Internet traffic areas much like yahoo q&a funny isn't it

no you can join the DEP program until your 18 or finish school but you cant see any action until 18yrs old. also your military career options will be limited until your 18 so go and talk now and get the information and make your MOS a wise one so when yuo finish your contract you can get a job!! talk now sign when your 18yrs.

if you do the DEP you DO NOT have to sign a contract this is a good way ti find out a little of what is instore for you! you can do this program and NOT have any commitment if yuo choose not to...your not commited until they swear you in at the MEP stations..so you can quit theyll just bug you to change your mind
good luck

Just buy counterstrike or Battlefield 2 to satisfy your urges. It isn't as much fun in real life.

Nope, they'll take you when your 9 months old with all the trouble they are having recruiting people.

joeapalla
Any age is inappropriate to talk to a coward marine corps recruiter. Ask that scum bad about the massacre at al-Haditha and the annual rapes of underage girls on Okinawa and ask that low life scum recruiter why he is nice and safe in the U.S. trying to recruit underage kids instead of in Iraq fighting for his Fuhrer.
