Is Afghanistan going to be more dangerous in the near future for US soldiers than Iraq has been?

I just heard that a relative was probably going to be transferred from Iraq to Afghanistan. And I was wondering with the Taliban and Al Queda swearing that they will fight against any foreign occupation to the death. Is not Afghanistan and possibly Pakistan going to be more dangerous than Iraq has been? Additional Details Odemgbe I, it is a very close relative, he's in the Marines and is very well trained in survival.

They are motivated by what they call "Religion". In my opinion they have nothing better to do with their lives but to fight against people that are not "One of their own". They seem to have no fear of death, believing that they will go to a greater place. So yes, it may be so I am sorry to say. I could go on about this subject but that is my answer for now. |

The Russians got mired down in Afghanistan. It is a tough place to win a decisive military victory because of the terrain. |

yes it is but still the Taliban are notorious bad shots, its the foreign fighters like the Chechnyans that make Afghanistan so dangerous |

Well, the general area around Middle eastern nations is going to get more dangerous as the people there multiply, therefore making more soldiers willing to kill americans, and/or likely die [BOOM!!!] in the process...
I'm not sure about Afghanistan specifically, but it'll probably be a challenge for getting any Americans [or Afghans!] out alive. |

It may be. That would be their last major stronghold. The problem is, that we`re fighting a foe who is driven by his religion, and they are willing to die for their God. |

No dear, it can't be so b coz it doesn't have oil type economic resources & it is in constant war like situation & draughts many times since 1979 & being almost completely devastated, earlier being a very-very beautiful nation. Now it is not the land of USA vs. Soviet conflict as it was then. People want there peace & rebuilding on war footing. More than 30,00,000 people lost their lives since 1979 & entire infrastructure destroyed. Afghans are habitually peace loving & honest but erstwhile Soviet Union wanted to capture it in 1979 to solve the problem of foodgrain shortage, move towards Iran & annex that too to close Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf(See in the map to understand its importance) & so deprive USA & entire west of getting even a single drop of Arab oil. That would have made erstwhile Soviet Union the biggest super power of the world & USA a very-very weak nation like a beggar. So, the entire west used tha Afghanistan land to make that a war zone against Soviet Union to defeat that at any cost irrespective of the losses of lives of local Afghan people, all innocent, having nothing to do with interests & intentions of the USA & former USSR(Soviet Union). They were only entrapped in war games between two biggest super powers & are still paying heavy price of that. They're not dangerous for anyone in the world. Iraq was a good friend of USA & peaceful one too but Senior Bush's hegemony destroyed everything. Super powers must not make foregn lands the areas of conflicts of their interests. Everything doesn't work as per planning of any nation, not even USA, the biggest super power.
Talibans are rag tag thugs & can't stand for a long time. They will vanish within months by themselves. Pakistan can't do much. Her interst finishes the moment Kashmir dispute is finally resolved. |

Well with better military intelligence,Al Qaeda could lose both Iraq and Afghanistan .I think that your relative needs to know how to survive.He/She needs to know what his/her superior does not.Help the best you can |

Yes I feel that it will be our next Vietnam. We should have done what needed to be done there before redirection resources to Iraq for a "legacy". I feel that delay will cost many more lives and many more dollars. |

Possibly, at least it seems that way. especially if pakistan gets involved, it is suspected that taliban have been hiding in pakistan also so.. We just need to withdraw, we still ain't found the mystery bin laden and the soldiers have been there long enough. |

In the religious controlled and blind belief stricken country like Afghanistan wherein many foreign mercenaries holed-up under the mask of Al-Qaeda, Taliban and some splinter groups and were operating actively either on land air or water. Under the pretext of so called "Jihad " the religion and God fearing folks and lives were either disrupted or mis-guided for their ulterior motives and feel their presence. But poor folks also need some sort of transformation to reform their standard of living and way of life.
Under such deplorable situation where myth and religious strong-hold places must be avoided. You please ask your dear relative to keep away and deploy military intelligence for countering terrorism. Is your relative anywhere connected with espionage or double agent type of activity ? So be careful, many innocent either kidnapped or disappeared. Since the economy in this country is totally in dol-drum, it appears the ruling government also involved hand-in-glove operation exactly like that of Pakistan. The foreign and local mercenaries complete their exercise and disappear into a safe passage i.e. Pakistan and vice-verse. So it's a big ring and circuit is well knit under the advantageous mountainous terrain or jungle. Under the camouflage of religion, burqua (veil), jihaad many innocent youth either diverted or mis lead where in the 'Shriat' law and Zigiya tax system were implemented.
Under such deplorable situation how can we step-in into fire knowingly ??
So look before you leap ! ! |
