I'm sure our government at least knew it was just a matter of time.
Clinton ensured the Chinese technology in the 1990's would reach this goal as soon as it has.
It is a power play by the Chinese and will force us to engage in better relations and inter-dependence on each others economies.
I feel it stabilizes peace rather than being a threat to it.
No need for us to respond to a technology that has been freely given to them by the Clinton administration.
This also limits the pressure we can put on them to deal with the North Korean problem. |

China has made several moves to demonstrate that they must be considered a "big player" in the 21th century. The anti-sat device was just the latest. China is a country who demands to be treated with respect. They will get that respect one way or another.
I think the best thing is to continue to maintain the best relations that we can with China. But we have to realize that they are going to go through a period of trying their weapon systems. Just as we did when we developed ours. When they are confident with their military then they might be responsive to some arms limitation type talks. But they are going to work to achieve military parity with the rest of the world first. |

Question 1: Are people still shopping at Wal-Mart?
Yes, and that pretty much sums up the first question.
Americans have become lazy spoiled CONSUMERS they don't care.
Question 2: Yes, theirs.
If we do it (and we have several times) other countries are going as well.
Question 3: Of course it's aimed at the U.S. China has been conducting joint war games with Russia - not with the U.S. so, it's not targeted at Russia.
Question 4: See answer to question 1.
You should be concerned, but with a government like the one the U.S.A. has there isn't a chance in he double toothpicks they are going to risk trade for the sake of security.
Be happy go shopping, learn Mandarin it will please your future masters. |

Yes. As loud as the protest, so deep is the fear.
No. Just a continuation, a new rival stepping up.
Maybe, or a barganing chip to get space weapons banned.
It has, by whipping up a storm of protests from allies. It already has anti-sattelite and anti-missile weapons, making more junk with a response test would nulify the complaints about making space junk. |

America is always going to worry about any other country tries anything defensively and try to develop any sort of weaponry. U.S is not only worried that it could be a threat, U.S worries it might effect them economically as well. China always remain interested in being a super power and they are capable of achieving that goal. It's not a threat against America, if any one going to worry about it, it should be the Indians and Koreans. It's not the start of Star wars.........it's basically a new development in the Chinese missile system. Soon there will be missile systems and fighter jets will be available for sale with the markings"Made in China" |

Not really. Our main comm and surveillance satellites are WAY beyond the range of those missiles. Now we will just develop sats that will be even further out in space. |

I'm an American and we haven't even cared about their threat which wasn't even on the news here because we are an ocean away and we have so many jobs out sourced there that everything we buy says made in china so we wouldn't dare build a better economy by giving those jobs to our own people(ha ha). |

The star war thing may have slowed down a bit, but it was never dead in the water. This new Chinese initiative will more than likely get it back on the front burner.
I don't believe the US is looking at this as a threat, it's more of a wake up call. As I understand it, the satellite destroyed by China was an old obsolete, out of service wreck, owned by China. So other than the space junk this test created, I don't believe China has necessarily violated any agreement regarding space.
It is a unilateral build up of arms, that's for sure. The US has no claim to space, so China is pretty much free to do as it wishes, provided it's acts are not provocative acts designed to raise the threat level. It's a given, the US will act in kind, to anything China decides to do relative to military build up! |
