It is a vitally important trading partner, /and/ a rival super-power.

Durring the Cold War, rival superpowers like the USA and PRC and USSR, depended on the doctrine of MAD (mutually assured destruction) to avoid nuclear war. Today, while MAD is still valid, the USA and PRC, in particular, are also so interdependent, economically, that even if one could destroy the other without retaliation, it would be economic suicide to do so.

I wouldn't say either but they are definatly dangerous. They help our economy through trade but we catch Chinese spies all the time. While neither us or them wants to go to war with one another its obvious they want to know what we know to benifet themselves.

I think China sees them self and want to be a friend. That said they also want to be equal, and believe (rightfully so in my opinion) that their inferior economic and military status will prevent equality, and therefore friendship, on some levels with the United States. As such they do and will continue to fight against any perception on weakness of complacency in the face of the US.

I think that the current problems that stem from that, and will continue to stem form that, is the CCP's desire to save face and maintain control against every real or percieve threat. This has and will continue to make them act counter their own best intersts in some regards. i.e. Taiwan.

I think this question is waay too hard to answer. We ship our jobs to them, yes, but that reduces prices for us as consumers. We are a huge consumer country. Most people want a cell phone, a huge television, a console gaming system, a computer, and so on. Well in order to be a consumer, we have to help the proprietor in making the product cheaper, or else people will complain about being poor cause they can't afford loyalties.... Loyalties in which we often confuse as needs.

In 20 years a Wal Mart door greeter will be the 13th top paying job in America, just watch.

The dark side is China is not making as much money as they can be with us being consumers... See, if Americans weren't the ones owning a large percentage of these companies shipped to China, then we'd be doing China a favor in lowering unemployment, while raising their economy, but since much of this money being spent in Chinese made products, then just come back to American fat cats... Then only the fat cats like the politics and bankers are making the money we spend on Chinese products... This will haunt us and them, and China, cause what will happen if the Chinese start immensely frowning upon the rich like Americans are?

There are other factors that we can look at with is China a friend or foe, but I think this whole free trade with China is going to turn black eventually.

It's simple, buy American made.
