Hawaii and Alaska are OCONUS Outside Continental United States but are not considered overseas tours. No you don't get the ribbon for those places |

While Hawaii is OCONUS, it is not considered an Overseas tour because it is still US soil. You must be in a foreign country to qualify for the Overseas Ribbon. |

It's considered an OCONUS duty station, just like Alaska. Not an overseas tour. That would be places like Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Bosnia, etc. |

Unless they changed it recently you get the Overseas Service Ribbon for Hawaii and Alaska. You will not get it until you PCS (DEROS) from Hawaii however. |

AR 600-8-22 (Military Awards):
5–4. Overseas Service Ribbon
a. The Overseas Service Ribbon (OSR) was established by the Secretary of the Army on 10 April 1981 as announced in Department of the Army General Order 15, 10 October 1990. It is awarded to members of the U.S. Army for successful completion of overseas tours.
...
c. Soldiers must be credited with a normal overseas tour completion according to AR 614–30.
AR 614-30 (Overseas Service):
Overseas:
Any area of the world other than the CONUS (see definition of CONUS). Sometimes referred to as outside CONUS, that is, OCONUS.
Continental United States (CONUS):
The contiguous 48 states and the District of Columbia
According to the regulations you are authorized an Overseas Service Ribbon for pulling a tour in Hawaii or Alaska. |
