Yes -- it sure the hell beats spending more money on war -- if used more allies before deciding to go war we would be much richer because we could cut back our military

NATO was formed in case of a invasion in Western Europe by the Soviets and the Warsaw Pact. If one nation was attack in NATO then it was viewed as an attack on all of them. In 1991 the Warsaw Pact and USSR broke up. But after 9/11 NATO nations joined the Americans in Afghanistan. Basically if the US is attacked they receive economic and military support from other nations in NATO. Its very good in terms of United States defenses.
