I asked this question before, I did not receive a thorough answer.
I need to know if PTSD is a medical disqualifier if the potential enlistee has not been on medication for three years. (My friend has an RE1 code, as her PTSD was diagnosed by the VA after separating honorably from the military.)
She is in the process of finishing her degree and would like to go back into the military as an officer, but is not sure that she will be allowed back in with her medical history.
Please, recruiters or people with like-minded experience only.

The reason noone can answer this thoroughly is that there are way too many details missing. The fact that "she" got an RE1 is a big plus, the medication is a big minus. A lot depends on what job "she" wants to come back in for, and what the needs of the service are. Right now is the worst time because of the poor economy, would you hire someone with PTSD or healthy and ready to go today? During the initial push into Irag the doors were wide open and "she" could have got in no worries.
The docs will have to screen all the info from the VA, and past treatment records, then they will make a decision about "her" status. Good news is that there is a 50/50 chance, YES/NO

PTSD is a cause, not an effect. its not like pnemonia where you can say exactly what it comes with, since PTSD is different for everyone. if its bad like she has flash backs then i doubt it. if it just causes sleep trouble, then i dont see why they wouldnt let her back in. |

i see that your friend has RE1 code which means re-enlist asap but if the military find out she has been diagnosed PTSD she will not be able it enlist unless she get a medical release and can be clear for active duty |

Yes PTSD is a dis-qualifier...
It is a Medical condition that has "NO KNOWN CURE"... |

At the very least they shouldn't, and she shouldn't for her health. She's done her service. |
