while no one can force you to join the military, many judges will give sime young offenders of minor crimes an option of joining the military to turn their lives around and have charges dissmissed or serve their time.
now there is the draft. if you are a male, you must register. females, nope. there is no draft now and almost all ilitary leaders of today are against there ever being one.

If there is a draft, which probably won't happen anytime soon. |

Forced? Did you just wake up from a coma or something? We haven't had the draft in 30 years. |

Yes, in two ways.
If you sign up for it, you have to do it and they can force you to do things you don't really want to do, because you're the one who signed up. If you don't, you'll most likely go to military jail.
Also, if you're drafted, you have to go or you'll be imprisoned as well. The draft has not been instituted since the Vietnam War, and some say it will never come back. However, if you are drafted, you can say you don't want to carry a weapon or want to work non-combat and they will oblige. |

Yes, if you signed the contract.
Amazing how people are willing to gamble on "we're not at war, so I'll get all the benefits and none of the disadvantages at the expense of the taxpayers" and then whine when they actually have to live up to their agreement.
You'd also be surprised how many brave men and women agree that such people are cowardly and without integrity. Braver men and women than me! I was brave enough to return my draft card, but these people were brave enough to join up voluntarily knowing and AGREEING to the consequences, ready to live up to them!
They are my heroes, and my wife's and daughter's heroes.
If you mean the draft? Yes, it is legal when in place. It is not in place at present, and using it without officially declaring war would be illegal, which may be why it isn't being used. |

Of course it is. It is not now in place, but the draft was used during the Vietnam War. If you were drafted, you had no choice but to go. |

There isn't a draft. If you volunteered, that's a different question. |

Why do you think males are required to register with the selective service after their 18th birthday. Of course it's legal! |
|

The United States currently has no conscription, but it is legal for the government to do so. |

Yes, when enacted by congress. this is why you still have to register for selective service. |
|

?

If there is a draft, yes. It has to be voted on by congress and passed to be legal. I think every man should serve at least 2 years in the military. Its a little payback for all the freedoms we enjoy. |

Yes, the draft is legal. |

The United States does not force people into the military.
Right now we are on a strictly volunteer basis. One you join you have to do what the branch of service you join demands of you.
That includes the National Guard too. |
