Of course not...that makes as much sense as saying that liberals can't support the troops and be against the war. of COURSE you can support the troops and be against the war...the same way you can be for the war, and not fight in it. I am ready for my thumbs down...lol |

I did my time in the Navy almost 20 years ago. I am too old to enlist now. Why can't I support the war? I do things here at home to aid families of soldiers who are overseas.
I also do not fight fires or apprehend bad guys. Is it hypocritical to support Fire Fighters and Police Officers? |

No.
Many people that favor the war are not capable of fighting in it. This would be like saying that if believe in pro choice but don't get an abortion you're a hypocrite. |

You know I'm really for fighting cancer. But I'm not a doctor so I better keep my mouth shut.I'm against pedophillia ,but I'm not a Social Worker or a Police officer ,so I better just keep quite. That's how the leftists creeps want you to feel about the war. |

I am not exactly clear on your question.
I do not think you have to fight a war to be for it. Many people have already served once or more times.
I do believe you have to believe in the reason you are there if you are going to be fighting. In Vietnam, at least in the earlier years, most people I knew believed we were doing the right thing. Later on I think due to the media and the anti-war protests it changed. When congress abandoned the military it really changed.
I try to keep up with those serving today. I read their blogs to try to get to the truth about what is happening. I believe firmly they, the people running patrols daily, risking themselves will give you an unbiased opinion on how we are doing. I do not believe a single word from the media or the democrats about how we are doing. They both want it ended regardless of consequence and therefore will lie about what is happening.
I believe in what we are doing and if I were able I would serve again. |

no...there are things you can do to support war and not fight in it...each person has his/her own job to do...we all work as a team together...except for liberals who stand outside and criticizes everything and then complains when it doesn't go their way... |

I'm favorable for the war in Iraq, but I'm not going to fight in it. I can better serve the country and our troops by supporting those who are over there. They wouldn't want me over there anyways... I can't shoot a gun to save my life!!! |

No neccessarily hypocritical the way you phrased the question, however, if you were to be drafted and not go- then it would be.
The Afghanistan conflict is more similar to Iraq than it would seem. For centuries, Afghanistan was largely Buddhist. In fact they (had) one of the largest momuments to Buddha in the world. However, a war with the Soviet Union crushed their stability and sent them into a civil war in which the Taliban took control. The Taliban ruined the Buddhist statues by order of religious fervour. In 2001, we arrived and witnessed the end of the Taliban in that country, however, they have been in "reconstruction" since.
Sounds awefully similar to the Iraqi story doesn't it? |

Not exactly. Or not always. Some people can't serve, but still believe it's right. Sure, it might be fun to read some hawk being taunted here with "Well join up if you like the war so much." But in truth I know it's more complicated than hypocrisy most times. |

Is it hypocritical to favor science but not be a scientist ? or to favor McDonald's but not to work there? |

This is a tricky question. I would have to say that you are not a hypocrite if you are for the war but don't fight in it. But to say that if you are in the military and are against the war and against the president, then yes you are a hypocrite, because that's why so many people have joined the military is to fight for and defend this country and its allies. |

Because the government of afghanistan (the taliban) directly supported the militias who attacked America on 9/11 without a doubt in both financial, physical, and moral support. Everybody, regardless of their fighting capacity or willingness to fight should have been for ***** slapping them back into the stone-age. It was a battle brought upon our nations by an act of war. If Ralph Nader (a pacifist if I ever saw one) were in office, we still would have bombed the hell out of them. It was the correct response as a nation.
With Iraq, the motivation for war was driven not by an attack on our nation, or any other direct act of war, but by a bunch of decision makers who thought it would be a good idea to start a war to pre-empt an act of war by the other side that they thought was inevitable. Whether or not they based their decisions on good information or good will are to be decided by the history books, but its not the same as having our nation attacked & responding to an attack. A lot of people express their indecision about the decision makers going into this war by claiming hypocrisy amongst folks who think they did the right thing.
I think it is hypocritical to support an unprovoked war when you have no personal stake in it. But most of the people who do support the war have a relative or a friend affected by it, so I don't think there are that many people left in the country unaffected. With 20,000+ battle wounds (the figure the last time I gave a hoot), nearly everybody here should have somebody they know who has been hurt by the war physically. With that in mind, I think its shortsighted and juvenile to summarize people as hypocrites for not fighting.
Besides, people can make contributions without fighting, like those of us in the manufacturing industry. |
