It might be ok--but it sure as heck will be hard on you.
I wasn't in top shape when I attended infantry basic training and after the first day I sure wished I was in better shape.
If you have the guts to tough it out you will soon be in good shape though. |

yep..believe me..they love guys that are out of shape...the drill teaqms thrive on out of shape people...and i promise you will start from the BOTTOM... |

I would not recommend that. Going in being able to run 2 miles would make it easier on you, but the physical part of training will still be hard on you. Even if you enter training in good shape, they will push hard to get in even better shape. |

worse case scenario you end up in the pork chop platoon until they get you in better shape |

you wont be for long buddy dont worry
I lost 25 Lbs in basic and was a mean killing machine after 8 weeks
and I could run forever ( and I hate running) |

It's absolutely OK to go to basic training out of shape. It will just make you're training absolutley miserable in a situation where you are already miserable.
I went in Sept 1986 at Ft. Dix, NJ |

Yes Definitely! That, is what the Instructors are really looking for, someone not fit, becoming fit within a certain time line. Remember, the only reason why they make recruits do a shitload of PT is to get the in-shape, not to make the stronger. So mainly there telling you... is that you do not have to workout before you get there, they will do all of that for you! |

You have to be able to complete certain physical tasks before going to basic. |

They'll get you in shape. Even if they have to starve you to do it... |

Gotta have more explosions!

They're supposed to train you and build up your fitness as a recruit.
However, I wouldn't want to be an out-of-shape recruit. It's not so much that it's harder on you, just that your lack of fitness will be a detriment to the rest of your platoon. |

Sure you can. You WILL be in shape when they are done with you. |

if you can pass the IST, or within close realms of reaching it, you can.
but it'll make your time at basic a lot harder than if you were in decent shape. |

It's better to go to boot already in shape, but not to worry, they WILL get you in shape or you'll die trying.
As long as you pass the health requirements at MEPS boot can and will whip you into shape. |

They'll get you in shape, but I'd recommend at least running a few times before you go. It'll make your life so much easier. Do some push-ups too. If you can't do ten at the start at reception they make you stay a couple weeks to get you in some kind of shape before you go to basic. |

As long as you make weight they will sure take you. When there was a draft they took anyone who could basically walk (within reason) my boss was 270 when he went in and came out at 190.
They might make you stay an extra week and be in "fat boy camp" or whatever they call it but you can still go. If I were you I would at least get to where you can job a mile and do some push ups and sit ups. |

well You have to be a certin weight to get in, so it really depends on how out of shape you are? |

Yeah, it's all dumbed-down now so that couch potatoes who can't even spell the word 'discipline' are allowed in. Yes, it really is that bad. The drill sergeants can't even yell at the poor little dears anymore! |
