I am a split op currently in High School ( I attended BCT between my junior and senior year ) and I am having a terrible time with my reserve unit, which is 100+ miles from me. My recruiter had set up a previous agreement with them that because for some reason that I was assigned a unit so far away when I have several units much closer, that I would not have to attend sessions after I had graduated and completed my AIT.
And now, however - They are trying to chapter 8 me for not attending the sessions. I have tried calling them, writing to them, and everything else but they refuse to even pick up the phone. I figured maybe I was calling at the wrong time so I decided to try different times of the day, each day, for three weeks with no response. And in the papers they sent me, they claim I have not tried to contact them.
Besides that issue, I have pay issue - I was only paid once during Basic, and I can't even get someone to fix that issue because it seems impossible for me or my recruiter to contact my unit. And so, I come to realize - The Army is not for me.
My dream was to be a Marine, ever since I was little - but I got caught up in a recruiter presentation to my class and delved into the Split Op program. It was a mistake, I acted on something I should not have and so now comes my question:
Is it possible to change from Army Reserve to Marine Reserve? I have not attended AIT yet, only Basic. Would it be possible for me to change my contract or perhaps in another fashion reenlist into the Corps?

All it takes to switch from one branch to another or reserve to active is a DD368. BUT your CO has to sign off on this. Because you are already in some hot water with your unit they are less likely to do this. If you get a discharge out of this with a RE3, you could attempt to enlist in the Marine Reserves, but will be unlikely. Right now waiver are hard to come by. The best bet is to get your cell records and a letter from the recruiter to prove you have tried to contact them. Then get in your car and drive up there and deal with all of this first. |

you can change once you ETS. if u have a bad reentry code though they wont take you. |
