The stereotype of military people being dumb and mentally ill is the opposite of reality. Beyond that, it's the height of hypocrisy to claim you hate rascism and stereotypes, and then paint troops with such a broad brush. Why is it acceptable to say military people are lazy and stupid, but not to label a minority group as such.
You can't, you shouldn't, and both are ethically unsupportable. They're both untrue, hurtfull, and damaging us as a nation.
Military personnel are better educated than the American public at large. Ask anyone who has been deployed how much they work. I doubt any of them say they worked 40 hour weeks. In fact, the DoD's manpower estimations figure military people work 60 hours per week... while at home. The figure goes way up when deployed.
As for the mentally ill part... people like that are very deliberately weeded out. If not, would the running joke about Corporal Klinger in M*A*S*H have been funny? No. It's common knowledge that if you display anti-social behavior, the military will remove you from it's ranks. While a large portion of America takes anti-depressants or Ritalin, it is impossible to be in the military and on those medications. |

I find it's the mentally ill and uneducated that ask such questions. |

You chose the name "Hummer the Great" and you have the gall to say that the military seems to only have the mentally ill and uneducated? And then you choose an avatar showing yourself in a knight's helmet?
Take a look in the mirror, sport! |

Jesus, you are just about the most poorly informed person ive ever had to rant on. Do you have any idea how hard it is to get into some of the jobs the military has to offer? Not even all high school graduates pass the minimum benchmark to join the Airforce. For example the training to become a Air force Para Rescue is one of the hardest mentally and physically in the Armed services. |

If that's the case then you're overqualified, and qualify for the ID8 badge.
You should thank the military for your right to speak like the moron you are. |

I Highly disagree many educated man have been in the military. What about our first president George Washington also many other of out presidents have been in the military it might seem like some of our presidents havent been so bright but surely they are more educateed than most of the american population. also the ASVAB is a very dificult test that is taken before anyone is allowed into the military |

You have blinders on; you have no bases for what you claim and my question are you just mentally ill, uneducated or is it you just seem that way. |

maybe it seems that way to civilians but actually there is a screening process to weed out the mentally ill and physically unable and etc. and to join the military you have to have a minimum of a high school diploma or a GED. |

Neither of those groups can join the military; they can only ask questions here as you so aptly show. I don't know your education level but knowledge, wisdom, ability to be open minded and maturity all seem lacking so schooling may be high but education in and of life is sadly lacking as is being tolerant of other view points. |

......................QUOTE................
JOHN GLENN ON THE SENATE FLOOR Date: Mon, 26 Jan 2004 11:13
Senator Howard Metzenbaum to Senator Glenn: "How can you run for Senate when you've never held a real job?"
Senator Glenn: "I served 23 years in the United States Marine Corps. I served through two wars. I flew 149 missions. My plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire on 12 different occasions. I was in the space program.
It wasn't my checkbook, Howard; it was my life on the line. It was not a nine-to-five job, where I took time off to take the daily cash receipts to the bank. I ask you to go with me ... as I went the other day... to a veteran's hospital and look those men - with their mangled bodies - in the eye, and tell THEM they didn't hold a job! You go with me to the Space Program at NASA and go, as I have gone, to the widows and orphans of Ed White, Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee... and you look those kids in the eye and tell them that their Dads didn't hold a job.
You go with me on Memorial Day and you stand in Arlington National Cemetery, where I have more friends buried than I'd like to remember, and you watch those waving flags.
You stand there, and you think about this nation, and you tell ME that those people didn't have a job? I'll tell you, Howard Metzenbaum; you should be on your knees every day of your life thanking God that there were some men - SOME MEN - who held REAL jobs. And they required a dedication to a purpose - and a love of country and a dedication to duty that was more important than life itself. And their self-sacrifice is what made this country possible.
I HAVE held a job, Howard! What about you?"
For those who don't remember - During W.W.II, Howard Metzenbaum was an attorney representing the Communist Party in the USA
If you can read this, thank a teacher.... If you are reading it in English thank a Veteran. |
