It has more to do with security clearances that with ratings. As a Nuke you'd have access to what is known as 'Restricted Data', which is data dealing with nuclear propulsion in your case. With that level of a clearance you'd be restricted on travel, the specifics of which I can't remember. |

Travel to certain countries makes it difficult if not impossible to get/keep/pass a reinvestigation of a secret or top secret security clearance.
And certain jobs to have travel and activity restrictions. For example the Army had an MOS in the early days of unmanned drones? That service by your or anyone in your immediate family in the Peace Corps was an automatic dis-qualifier |

You cannot go to some locations on vacation but if the ship or boat pulls into Korea or Hong Kong then that is a different matter. Other Ratings/Mos' have restrictions on where they are and are not allowed to go to during vacation as well. I have one friend whose husband is a retired pilot he isn't allowed to go to some locations for 50 years or longer. It depends on your Rating/Mos and the information that you have. |

Yes it's true just like any security job. and if you pretty much go to any country other than your current country you'll have to get an intelligence brief about the dangers and OPSEC of your intended destination. |

Not just nucs either, anyone with a security clearance is limited in what nations he can visit. |
