Is it true when you are Honorably discharged from the Marines you can keep your sidearm (M9)?

Im not a stupid kid, im going to apply for NROTC under the Marine option. This kid was trying to tell me you can keep your handgun. Ive read you can bring back a pistol if you have proper paperwork then it would not be considered a war trophy. If anyone can sort this out for me thanks. - Tom

Perro- This was 2 parts. I was trying to say I was sure you cant keep your own issued gun. But you can keep one that you find as long it is filled correctly or else it would be considered a war trophy.

You are saying you read where you can bring back a pistol if you have proper paperwork. Well this is not the same as keeping the weapon that is issued to you. You are speaking about two entirely different things.

Hell no you can not keep your weapon that is issued to you. That is just silly.

All weapons/equipment that are issued to you must be returned before you get out.

And just to let you know..just because you are going to do some ROTC program does not mean you are smarter or any better then anyone else..
