Is it worth sending a letter to someone in basic training?
|
my boy friend is going to basic training and i have been researching about sending letters to him while he is there. it sounds like sometimes letters may hurt more then help. having to do push ups, read them aloud, get made fun of for them, pictures are passed around. if anyone has experience with basic training i would like to hear your opinion if you think it is worth it to send letters to participants at the BT.
i really want to do the right thing. thanks.

After about 5 weeks in basic training, my husband wrote me to thank me for making him both physically and mentally tougher. When he called me on the phone a few days later, I asked him to explain what he meant by that.
He said that for each letter that someone sent him that he had to do 20 push-ups for it. I was like "are you kidding me" because there were days that I sent him like 2 maybe 3 letters so that on Monday he would get like 4-6 letters from me. He said getting the letters meant he had to do the 20 push-ups each because he really wanted my letters and emotionally because he knew that I still loved him and wanted to be with him and couldn't wait until I saw him again. So I keep writing him. He did say that a few times the DI asked how someone could marry someone like him and how could he have such a beautiful daughter with his looks. I guess we all know how DI's can be.
I continued writing him and that is all the advice I can give you. Write, Write, write. I wrote about everything, it was and is the little things that they want to read about.
Even when my hubby is deployed, he says there is nothing like mail call. That was and is the highlight of any deployment, training exercise, field problem or schooling. He knows that we still need him and want him to come home to us. |

YES YES YES
When I was in boot camp, the only thing that keeps you going is letters from home, especially from the Girlfriend and family!
Do it, most of the time they will leave you alone, they can't open your mail or anything. If you get something crazy like a musical card then they pay attention to you. That was how my platoon went. |

Mail is a big morale booster.
We didn't have to do push-ups unless we got more than 4 letters in one day. Even then 10 push-ups for a letter was well worth it.
Never heard letters being read out loud.
Pictures being passed around is from the person who got the mail. You don't want to send anything that you don't want anyone else to see anyways. |

Absolutely send a letter. If there is one thing that lights up a GI's eyes it is getting a letter from anyone. Unless you are sending a "Dear John" letter. |

Nothing else to really say, looks like you got your answer. Yes, Yes, Yes send mail to him. Trust me nothing will make his day better than when he gets mail from home. Send him a letter everyday, it will light up his day.
I always looked forward to getting mail when I was there. Heck, it could have been a bill and I would have been happy to see something not having to do with basic training or the military in general.
Happy writing!! |

Yes!!! You should definitely write him letters!!! When my husband was at Basic training he said the only thing that kept him going was the letters from me!!! Yes, they might have to do push ups sometimes, but they hardly ever read the letters aloud unless they really want to, so just don't put anything you wouldn't want read aloud to everybody! Also, if you don't write him people will start to make fun of him and say that his girlfriend doesn't really care for him and stuff like that!! It happens! It's sad to say but it does happen, the girls that don't write their boyfriends or husbands, they end up getting more crap from people there then if they did receive letters from you!! The best thing for you to do is write him every once and awhile and he can write you back on his free time! It'll help with the process and being away from each other a lot more! Trust me! Just write him!
Good luck! Hope this help! |

Yes, u should definitely send him a nice well written letter.
Spray it with perfume like one said, tell him u miss him and u cant wait till he gets back, and they u have a surprise for him! Lol and keep him guessing, don’t give it away until he gets home. Write him everyday if u can, it will seriously keep him hopeful and it will make him love u even more because he’ll know through the hard times u’ll still be there for him and he can count on u. Its not embarrassing at all.
My friend went to Basic and he said at first that he was a bit discouraged because no one wrote to him…But it was because he gave them the wrong address! Ha! So after he got letters he was a lot happier and said it gave him something to look forward to everyday. And it was a good way to vent about what he was thinking.
Its not really a great feeling when u away from home, working a lot with a whole bunch of other ppl, and the only females that are there are manly! Words from his mouth. The best feeling is to get letters from ppl u love, pictures and blessings.
Go for it and put ur love in every letter u send him. Keep him happy and going while he’s there. U guys will be so happy when u get back together. Tell him ur so proud of him and u love him soooooooooo much! Express It girl! Lol add some nice short quotes u find online that u guys might like.
Send him song lyrics. Like ”Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing”
Have fun writing ur letters. =] |
