It's not what the Marines call each other. It's just a slang given to The MARINES.

it's because the Marines do what they gotta do & so they've been called Jarheads. so it's just a slang.

Generally we call each other Devil Dog, Devil, Marine, boot, or Dumbass. It's not a derogatory name though. You can say it and none of us will be offended. We just don't call each other that. |

They call each other Devil Dogs, which is the English slang for "Teufelhunden" which is what Germans called them in WWI - they are still pretty proud of that.
The Germans also called the Scottish Highland troops "Die Frauen von Holle" or the ladies from Hell - because of the kilts they war to battle - ha ha. |
