Is joining the military wise in helping with my career path?

I'm 21 and just recently graduated from film school with my Bachelors. I wish to pursue my dream as a filmmaker. My brother recently joined the US Marines (infantry) and I thought to myself:

-How helpful would joining a military branch be for not only my skills but also my character as well?

-Which branch would suit my interest?

-Which Occupational Specialty within that branch would be best for my interest (ie. Combat Cam)?

-Would joining the military have made my Bachelor degree I earned a waste?

-Wanting to pursuing filmmaking, should I go Active or Reserve?

I am current just asking around getting opinions from friends, family, and strangers. I will make my decision based off of everything I've collect (not just from Y!A). Thank you.

It won't hurt you. There are jobs in the Army that can help you and including journalism. Trust me, your degree wouldn't be a waste. With you having your Bachelors, you can either come in as an E-4 or get an OCS contract if you qualify. However, as an officer you wouldn't be able to choose your job directly like if you went enlisted. If you have college loans you can get up to $65,000 to pay them back. I would recommend talking to a recruiter for more information.

The decision is really yours. There are many different jobs to choose from. With your education, I would think there wouldn't many jobs not open to you.

Your education would not be wasted and no matter what job you choose in the army, the experience will definitely give you confidence.

When you leave you will be a different person, with a lot more avenues open to you.

The army taught me a lot and when I left, I got a very good job. They wanted someone with a university degree. This I don't have, but they thought my military back ground was just as good as a degree.

I wish you all the best in whatever you decide to do.

If anything the military will strengthen you career path. The GI bill will pay for your continuation into a career. Serving your country is not only prestigious but also respected by many employeers. They will know you are able to take orders and follow out commands in any occupational field. You will go into the service with a higher pay grade, due to your BA. This is one of lifes adventures you do not want to miss!
