Is the British Army the best in the world?

Since I think both British & American service men/women are great, I would settle for a tie as to who is the best! Lets not forget the Canadians, they are equally great! This much I must give you, in the first W.W. & second W.W., the British & Canadians fought longer than the Americans because you were under attack before we entered the wars, your losses were greater because you are a smaller nation than America, but you also had some of the colonies fighting with you. We came in stickly as Americans so our losses were all American. I appreciate British & Canadian loyalty to the U.S., I hope you appreciate our loyalty to your respective contries.

Let's put it this way, they have the best Army for England, but they would be worthless for Arabia, U.S.A. or most other countries.
The U.S. has the best Army for the U.S., but it would be worthless for the U.K.!
All a country needs is the Army suited for it's own countrie's needs, that makes them great at the very least, but every country is different and has it's own needs.

They'd be a contender, along with the Israelis & the Germans.

The brits have the best training of the three, and generally the best equipment, but the Israelis have more experience and the Germans better leadership.

Someone nominated the Australian and New Zealand forces - both superb small armies, but not very well equipped. Rommel said "give me a division of Australians and I could take hell. Give me a division of New Zealanders and I could hold it". He rated the NZ division as the best division in North Africa.

The Canadians would be another under-rated force - their troops performed superbly in two World Wars being the elite corps in WWI - the enthusiasm & individuality of Americans with British style discipline.

The US forces lack discipline - their training has improved hugely in recent years, but their conduct is appalling - complete lack of fire discipline, inability to show any respect to civillians, etc. Any British NCO would have half the US army on a fizzer in an hour, and the rest by the end of the day!

well if I could chose witch army that I would like at my side in a war then it would be the British army because very very professional. OK there are many other army's off witch you can say that but what makes the differences for me is that you're army still has a standing and style that you you can only find in the British army
So yes for me it is.
But i must say that the Canadian and Australian army's are very close candidates in the running but who was there teacher? So I go for the original

The British Army is not the best army in the world because
1)They would need all Branches in the military to to power and Isreal has the best airforce.
2)People think The British Army is the best because they have the name The royal Airforce or Royal Navy.

If it isn't, it's pretty darned close. The Brits, as I understand it, has intensive training within their military programs. Of course, so does the US and Israel. I for one, am glad that Great Britain is our ally.

In terms of size the British army wouldn't stand a chance with the likes of the US, Russia and China but i can assure you if a 100 of Britains best troop were to fight 100 of the US's troop the British would win every time. I can't stand the Americans feel they have to poke their nose's into everything!!!
