Is the U.S. Military Simply Incompetent?

Or are they effectively engaged in terrorizing a population in order to achieve the appropriate "shock and awe" that will allow for them to realize the imperialist desires of America's wealthy elite?

US Afghan Strikes Kill 100, 'Mostly Civilians'
By AFP

HERAT, Afghanistan (AFP) — Police in Afghanistan said Wednesday that US-led air strikes against insurgents had killed 100 people, most of them civilians, in one of the deadliest such attacks in nearly eight years.

The US military opened an investigation into the operation overnight Monday into Tuesday in the remote western province of Farah, as Afghan President Hamid Karzai ordered his government to probe reports of high civilian casualties.

"During the aerial bombardment and ground operations, more than 100 people have died," western Afghanistan police spokesman Abdul Rauf Ahmadi told AFP, basing his information on reports from police, the Red Cross and locals.

The military is being used in a manner completely inconsistent with their intended use. Would you use a grenade to or a bug bomb to rid your house of termites?

Using the military to combat terrorism is like using a grenade to rid yourself of termites.

Just think - how much money have we spent, and how many acts of terrorism have we prevented? We're spending tens of billions of dollars (literally, tens of billions of dollars) to prevent each act of terrorism - no matter how small. We could have handed every Iraqi citizen 10 years income to not hate our guts and we would have been more effective and SAVED money in the process.

Plus the economic costs of maintaining our military during this never ending mission have risen to staggering proportions. Literally, tens of trillions of dollars. We could have bought all the MBSs in default directly with no further problems to the markets if it were not for all the money we've wasted.

Running_in_Circles is absolutely correct. I also might add when considering the source of the report, that they didn't have all the facts. No one has examined/counted the bodies yet. The last time this happened, the Taliban had already killed a large group of villagers days before with hand grenades so that when we did have attacks like this it would seem that we had killed a large number of civilians. This is to produce a propaganda affect that you just swallowed. This is part of the reason an investigation has been opened...it's been done before. Can you, the untrained observer, tell the difference between a freshly killed human body from a bombing from one that has been dead a couple of days and included in the same bombing? I doubt you have even ever seen a dead body outside of a funeral service.

What would be the most effective way for the Taliban to discredit America? By killing civillians and blaming the Americans for it. Dont believe what you hear on the news.

The military as a whole? Completely retarded. But it's mostly the higher leadership. I was in the infantry and the guys on the ground know what the hell is going on, but the higher "brass" doesn't even give a ****.

Guys get promoted just because of their time in service, not for experience.

And as for things like this that kill civilians......it's war man, everybody dies. I consider the guys I lost civilian casualties as well. They were just 18 year old kids trying to not die to earn their college money; driving down the road and then....BOOM! The only way to avoid "non-combatant" casualties is to just get the hell out of a war that we don't know how to fight in the first place.

They don't mean to kill civilians and anyone who thinks so is weird. It's tough when the enemy lives with the general population.
