It only takes a few weeks to get your things in order to deploy. Hes done training, now time to utilize the training.

For some reason the word "allowed" just doesn't fit in this context. Allow implies that they need to get permission to send him some place. They can order your brother to go any place they may need him.

If he has completed BCT and AIT then he will ship with his unit(occasionally without it) whenever they say so. This is the life of a soldier.

If a particular duty station isn't guaranteed in his enlistment contract, the U.S.Army can send him anywhere the need him after training.

no they can send right when ur done my cuz is just now goin into trainning today and is step-dad whos in the army said he will most likely get deployed as soon as hes done round december so yea sry though

Nope. They ship you when they need you. He's done with all his training so he has to go. I don't know much about Army basic, but in the Marines you are pretty much in schools for your first year. Basic for three months, MCT for a month, then school for 6-8 months.

I only got 1 day's notice that I was going to Iraq. It is better for him to go now before he gets rusty on what he learned in school.

Nope, I've served with kids would just got out of AIT a month ago and they were already in the sand box. It's not the best solution because they haven't had a lot of time to adjust to the military way of life outside of Basic, which is more strict then usual military life. Don't worry too much, older soldier which look out for him, most are very sympathetic to the situation. He will adjust quickly, you would be amazed at how fast soldiers adjust to situations.

The only time buffer between OSUT and deployment is about 2 weeks for additional culture training. Other than that, he goes.

I'm not trying to be rude but when you sign up for the army they give you a nickname is GI as in Government Issue. Which means that after your brothers 14 week training they could have shipped him straight off without notice. be lucky he got the 1 month and I will be praying for him

Where did you get that idea? The only way he would not ship with the unit is if he had a "non-deployment" clause in his contract. Otherwise, he is REQUIRED to mobilize with his unit.

Question: Why join the Guard or Reserve without the chance of going to the same places that the Military is sending other reservists?

As for short time from training to initial deployment, if he hasn't filled the blocks, he would NOT be ready to deploy!
