The Foreign Legion is a branch of the French army that is commanded by French officers.

No it is not the French Army. They are a very valuable asset to the French military.

In my understanding, I might be wrong, they are the elite forces for France. They are also valuable because of the inherent plausible deniability.

You can join the FFL without knowing one word of French, but you WILL learn French.

The Foreign Legion is part of the French Army, otherwise it's members would be classed as mercenaries under the Geneva convention
It's commanded by French officers but recruits foreigners as soldiers and NCOs who also hold French Passports

Not necessarily. The Foreign Legion is a group in a countries military that is of non-citizens. Many countries have foreign legions. This is how some countries allow others from other countries to join their military. So technically yes because the French Foreign Legion is a Foreign Legion but there are other countries with Foreign Legions

The French Foreign Legion is officially separate from the French Army, due to the fact that after the 'July Revolution' of 1830, foreigners were forbidden to enlist in the French Army.
However Legionnaires are commanded by French officers.

no it`s not the French Army but it based in France and you have to learn to speak French. They take all nationalities
