Is the georgia army national guard a good idea?

I'm 38 years old (yep that old) and I'm tired of sales a little. But, I'm more tired of job instability. There doesn't seem to be that much job security out there from what I can see. Seems to me that is a nice benefit of the military. I'm looking at maybe joining the Army National Guard or Airforce National Guard (not sure which one yet). I have a family, so I have hopes I would not be deployed if a choose a career that is less likely to be deployed.

Don't join any part of the military if you don't want to be deployed. Once in you just can't quit. You better find another line of work.

It sounds like you think the Guard & Reserves are full time job. Not so. You may get less than $200.00 a month. That's right.

I spent 24 years in the military and I was deployed so many times I honestly could not remember how many times back then.

I hate to burst your bubble here, but I believe the cut off age wise to join the military is 35. I went to boot camp in Dec of 2004 and at that time they told us that 35 years old is the oldest person they will take. I was in the Navy. It may be different for the National Guard, I don't know. I would speak to a recruiter to be certain.

They won't tell you this, but at a time of war, the National Guard is the first to be deployed. Do not join the military thinking its a safe career or that you won't be deployed because of a certain job. If you choose any career, you still have a chance of not being needed in the hometown you are in and that means you ship out. Most of the time, your family doesn't come with you.

Make sure that your family can make it without you financially. Your looking at a measly paycheck from the National Guard. About $200 a month. I think the only way you get a full paycheck is if you are deployed. Deployment can be 6 months it can be 3 years. Its hard to tell.

Speak with a recruiter about your age. You may not qualify for military service because of it.

wow..38....you can enlist up to age of 40 now. How they look at it you can still go 20 yrs and be age of 60 for retirement. Yes you may get deployed...I was in the guard 18yrs before getting deployed. You can also look into fulltime jobs with the guard...been doing it now for over 19 yrs. Good Luck

Ok do not get into the Guard unless you do not mind being deployed. Any job in the guard can lead to deployment. Be realistic about what you are doing. Right now there is a war going on. The military is not going to train you to fight boredom on the weekends.
