I realize he is the Commander and Chief, but is that considered military service? If he is in the military is he considered to be simultaneously serving in all branches of the military? Does he carry a military ID and what branch would it be affiliated with?

No. He's Commander in Chief, but we have civilian control of the military, an officer who wants to become president like Grant or Eisenhower must resign his commission. |

No he is not. That is by design. The founding fathers wanted to make sure the military was separate from the political leadership. Many countries the President does hold military rank. |
