I think it is rapidly headed that way with the word 'quagmire' a constant in both conflicts. Vietnam was of course different in many ways. People will of course compare and contrast the two. To sum up the question though, I believe it is more f*cked up. I look at Veitnam - an aweful conflict as it was, as having more of a black and white process. Iraq is in many shades of grey.

good question... it's pretty damn close - you would think that we learned a lesson the first time about insurgency and trying to mix political aims with military ones, but no...

also, don't listen to the douche who compared this to the civil war, this is nothing like that - I don't remember too many suicide bombings during the civil war, do you? The type of war and the type of warfare is totally different

Of course not. The war as reported and the war as it exists are two very different stories.

I remember growing up in the Bay Area, part of a family who were vigorously against the war. When I went to college and later graduate school, I began to change my own political views while participating in a course on the politics of the Vietnam War.

I still remember the day we all realized that the Tet Offensive was not a major military defeat for the US. In fact, the North Vietnamese considered it a crushing defeat. The Viet Cong were effectively wiped out by US and South Vietnamese forces.

However, the media reported the Tet Offensive as if it were another Battle of Bull Run. In truth, much of the media (for a myriad of reasons) wanted the US to lose the war and slanted their stories.

The war in Iraq is like all wars. It is shifting, dangerous, crazy, calm, full of heroes and villains...and, changing everyday. To throw out the old cold war mentality of supporting friendly dictators and to attempt to bring democracy to the middle east is a huge undertaking by the Prez.

This war probably would never have happened if we had not been attacked on 9/11.

I saw stories on Vietnam an I think that the American didn't learn anything fro Vietnam..Iraq is worst that it has ever been in 2decades.

It has the potential, but I have optimism since the Democratic party won back the House and Senate. We did make a statement for change that cannot go unignored.

Up to this point that can be more easily answered by the situation at home. The people got more radical earlier with Nam, But neither war would be f... up if it were not for dissension in the US

It's looking more the same everyday. The difference is Iraq
is being fought in a desert, Vietnam was more swamp like.
Looks like the outcome will be similar, sad to say.
