Is the war in the middleast today?

more similar to the vietnam war?...or the gulf war?

Neither...although its closer to Vietnam than the Gulf War...its how Vietnam would have looked had we won instead of lost--not pretty, but the gradual and successful release of control to local forces after many unsuccessful and costly attempts.

The only thing that resembled the Vietnam war was the politicians here in the States undermining the efforts of the military.

As for the war, it is over and won,

This is now the stabilization effort, the same as we did in Europe after WWII. The US is not at war with an enemy in Iraq.
