First off, thank you for your service to the veterans. As for your financial aid problem, I don't think they have any scholarships for students who volunteer for veteran events. Your should try TAP and FAFSA first. If they can't give you any assistance, my advice to you is to apply to other scholarships and use your experience in "assisting the vets" as part of your essay. It will actually make you stand out from the other applicants. Thanks again and good luck. |

do u mean for people who volunteer at veterans events or for veterans themselves?
theres tons for veterans. gi bill, fafsa, different associations.
for someone who just volunteers at events, none that i know of. if you officially work for the VA i believe they offer some sort of education assistance, then again that might be for vets who work for them. |

Hello Amanda:
I am Gary Kendall, a disabled USAF Veteran and a volunteer Veterans' Service Officer. Over the years I have interfaced with thouands of Veterans, their family members,a nd the professionals and volunteers that help Veterans.
Thank you for your volunteer efforts to help Veterans.
I have never heard of a scholarship based upon volunteer service to Veterans. I must admit that I think it is a great idea.
In lieu, I would suggest trying to get hired by the Veterans Administration and then seeking VA employees tuition assistance. Your volunteer service to Veterans might serve to gain you some extra consideration points during hiring review.
Other than that - depending on your age and situation - you might be able to volunteer for military service on a two-year program that would 1) offer you advanced training in the discipline in which you are interested or similar enough to become applicable resume experience prior to education, and
2) offer you tuition assistance after separation from military service.
If your father or mother is a Veteran, there might be some tuition assistance for you through the VA due to their service. You would need to check with the closest VA Regional Benefits office to find out.
Good luck, Amanda, get top grades! It pays off in the long run. |
