Is there any hope of me becoming an officer in the Air Force or the Navy?

I will graduate from college in one year with a degree in Geographic Information Systems. My GPA is a 3.0 and I have no extracurricular activities, sports, or volunteer experience. I do have a squeaky clean background, but I have had about eleven jobs in my life and have been fired from three for being late. I have not been fired from a job in five years, I have matured since then. I will be 26 years old when I graduate.
I hear that the military budget will be cut in the coming years so I fear that the Air Force and Navy will not be looking for many new officers. I also hear that the selection process is difficult in these two branches of the military.I know my chances of getting into Army OCS are good, but I feel that the Air Force or Navy would be a better fit for me.
Do you think I stand a good chance of making it as an officer in the Air Force or the Navy?

Not very good for either.
Your gpa is just to low.
The average gap for Navy OCS and Air force OTS are around 3.5.
You would be good to go for the Army or Marine Corps though.
The military always needs new Officers and enlisted. |

With a degree in Geographic Information Systems it would seem like you would be of some value to the military. Any branch, not just the AF or Navy.
Your best bet is to apply for the Officer program in every one of the services. If you are actually selected for 2 or all of them, then you'll have the choice of which branch to pick.
3.0 isn't the most stellar GPA but that's only going to be one aspect they will look at in selecting you. You will have to take and qualify on the Officer Qualifying Test (each service has their own version).
It's worth a try because you will never know unless you apply. Remember to apply with every branch at the same time. |

You can always enlist in the navy and once you are in there is a few programs you can apply to become and officer. STA 21 Seaman to admiral, LDO, Warrant officer to name a few. |

First off, when it comes to the military, believe half of what you see and none of what you hear. You've got a year to get some of that other stuff under your belt so, try this, and this is just off the top of my head which is usually sparse. Volunteer work is easy to find. Get with a local Boy Scout troop, senior centers, food bank and so on. Look around for groups who do house fix up and repairs for the elderly. You can swing a paint brush can't you?.
You are on the late side as far as sports programs go but that doesn't mean you can't start getting into shape. You being a Geek (no offense intended), you probably know more of them around campus so find someone who had thought about some sort of fitness program and work out together. Go to the Phys Ed depart. and get a work out program from them. Don't just start doing push ups or running with out some sort of plan to do it. Some many people will just jump in and do what they think is a structured routine and wind up doing more damage than good.
As for the rest, sounds to me like you have a good chance to get accepted to OCS/OTS. Do some research on the programs. That way you'll have some idea as to how the system works and what the do's and don'ts are.
Good Luck. |

a 3.0 will not be competitive enough for either branch. anything less than a 3.5 will not get serious consideration.
toss in the utter lack of outside activities and your chances are slim to none. you may have to consider enlisting first then applying to OCS from within. |

Sounds like it to me. I would contact your local recruiter and talk with him. Be sure to talk to both AF and Navy. |
