Is there any mil to mil couple out there that I can talk to?

I would love to talk to those of you who are both in the military together. Prefferably Air Force, but any branch would do just fine!

My husband is already in, and I'm really thinking about joining!
I need to decide soon though because I'm tired of wondering what it will be like..I just want to do it!

by the way...i only want to join for 4 years. Not forever.

I have to heartily disagree with the poster who stated that cheating, money problems etc are higher in mil - mil couples. That has not been my experience at all. If you marry a cheater, he's going to cheat regardless of what you do for a living. If you can't manage your money, it doesn't matter that both of you bring in a fabulous salary. My kids have never had to "adapt" to being a military child. . .they have never known anything different. They've seen the world on the Air Force dime and they are better for it.

The radius for being stationed together is 50 miles vs. 100 (AFI 36-2110, chapter 5). My husband and I have only been separated for 3 months during our marriage and we knew that we'd be together at the end of the three months so it wasn't all that tough. The AF works very hard to keep mil to mil together.

As for the family care plan, yes, you should have one if you have children. My parents had one, even though my mom was a civilian; if something happened to my parents, my favorite aunt would have custody of us. ....civilian spouses can become ill, etc. so its not that big a deal if you have a reliable person who will step and take care of your kids. If you don't have a reliable, willing person(s), then think twice.

I'm not MIL to MIL. I'm active duty Air Force and my husband is a civillian who's never been in. I just wanted to say I think it's great that you want to join - I would love it if my husband could learn more about what I do everyday. I also wanted to let you know that if your husband has a job that is specific (like being a maintainer on a certain airframe) or his job is limited to certain bases, you should consider getting an AFSC that can go anywhere (like Knowledge Operations, Personnel, Finance, etc) so that you can be sure and get a joint spouse assignment. If you have kids it can be difficult because you have to have a plan in place if you both get deployed at the same time (it does happen.)

I will warn you of one thing. There are NO guarantees you will be stationed together. The Air Force does a pretty good job of keeping married people within 100 miles of each other (the reg), but it all depends on your AFSC and openings.

Like one of the other answers says, the Air Force tries to keep married couples close, but there is no guarantee. There is also the option of you going reserve. And then you can try to put in for man days or get activated to see some active duty time. My husband is active Navy and I am AF reserve. My brother was active Marine and my sis-in-law Army reserve.

Shoot an e-mail if you have any other questions, I am more than happy to try to help with what I know.

Good Luck, hope I can help.

My husband is in the Army, and I work as a contractor dealing with military families. If you want my advice, I would tell you "don't do it!". There are so many issues that come up with dual military families. First, there are many more instances of cheating, distrust, money problems, relationship problems, etc. Secondly, if you decide to have children, there comes the issue of your family care plan. Who takes care of the child while you are both deployed? Being a military child with dual military parents is very difficult to adjust to.

If you are only going to do it for 4 years, I would definitely recommend trying to get stationed together, don't have kids until you are out, and keep open lines of communication, seeking counseling when needed.
