You can enlist directly into the army under the MOS 18X, which is a Special Forces. You would go to Infantry OSUT (Basic Training and AIT in one) Airborne, Possibly Ranger, then get sent to SFAS, otherwise known as Special Forces Selection.
But the thing is, it isnt a pass of fail course. You have to pass the course and then get selected by the command to go on to the Q-Course. If you do not get selected you will just go on to be a regular Infantryman. |

I wish that I had known of this before I enlisted but I didnt but know you do. Go and talk to an Army recruiter and tell him that your interested in the 18X program. It is for people to come off of the streets straight into the Special Operations program. If you qualify you will go to Ft. Benning and attend 11B(infantry) Basic Training, from there you will stay at Benning and attend Basic Airborne Training and then attend SFAS which is Special Forces Assesment and Selection. Be sure that you are in the best shape possible because SFAS is very demanding physically and mentally and if you are not prepared then you will suffer and not make it. The best way that I can tell you to prepare is to workout, learn how to read a map and navigate terrain, learn how to road march with anywhere from 55 to 75lbs of weight on your back in varied terrain over incredibly long distances. Remember to try your best, thats all they are looking for. They will tell you to do your best before and during everything that you do in SFAS. Have fun and I hope that this information is useful to you. Get Selected is a great book which will help you out. It was written by two very capable Special Forces Operatives. |

Yes. It's called the US Army "18X Special Forces enlistment option."

In the Air Force, while attending basic training you can try out for jobs such as Pararescue (Special Operations).
So yes, in the AF, you could join their 'indoc' program after successfully completing basic training, if you are deemed worthy by tryout.
Other specialized jobs in the AFcould be TACP, Combat Control, or SERE.
For the numb nuts who said join Blackwater, you are way off. Blackwater was founded by an ex-Navy SEAL, and is comprised mostly of ex-military, to include a large number of ex-Special Forces and Special Operations types. The job also requires a SECRET level clearance. Minus a few exceptions to specialties such as mine (K9), they target the very special skill sets. |

In the air force you can go straight into pj, or tacp training, but there is a very high washout rate among the first termers. |

Just about all of them. Of course, if you don't pass the course, you'll end up doing whatever they want you to do. |

Yes as a matter of fact it can be done but it couldn't be done before 9/11 but after the recruiters had such a hard time meeting their quotas the army came up with the idea of letting civilians go streagth into special forces units they are loured in by the promise that they will go into an special forces unit( which is true but your chance is 1%) ginving that they pass all the test that will be givent to them, basic training, infantry school, airborne school ect, ect, and then selection where 99% of the new recruit will fail, but don't be disapointed you will go to a regular unit...now you have to keep in mind that your normal SF. soldier is well above average intelectualy and in Physical condition you have to undure a alot--so unles you a are very good atlhetic you stand no chance...any way good luck now you know the truth.. |

It looks like a lot of people answered this who did'nt know what they were talking about.
You can enlist in the Army for the 18X program. A few other answers on here mention it. It is real, just tell your Army recruiter you want to join with an 18X contract. Make sure it says 18X program on your enlistment paperwork.
It takes about 2- 3 years before you earn your Green Beret. If you dont pass allthe tests ( Basic training, airborne school, special forces selection, special forces qualification course) you still have to finish your Army enlistment as a regular Infantryman. |

I've been in the Marine Corps for 8 years and I've never seen anyone in any service get into special forces without doing something else first. |

No you must be enlisted to apply for special forces |

The French Foreign Legion would probably be your best bet. No other government in the west has a special force that allows "walk ins."
You may want to check with Black Water.
Other than that, you'd have to go overseas to smaller countries but then you'd have to speak the language, know the culture etc; |

No. That is like asking if you can be a top chef and never have been in a kitchen before.
The Special Forces, no matter what branch, are people selected from the rest of the service; that apply, are screened, and then trained to become part of the elite. The special forces aren't going to want someone that doesn't already have the basic military knowledge and training. Sorry.
I've been in the service for over 10 years and I am in the Spec Ops community. |

No ! Only time proven and fully trained military personnel are selected for special forces. Not just any of them are selected, only the best of the best are considered.
It's much like going from collegiate ball to the pros! |

No. Military special forces is done by a try out, pretty much. You have to already be in the service/branch and when its time to try out, you go through a series of tests until a certain few are chosen. |

Depends on your definition of SOF. If you are talking Seals or or ARMY SPF no way If you are taking Ranger yes.
Keep in mind, SOF truths prohibit it
"Special operation troops can not be mass produced..." |

other than contract operations I'm going to say no. Every military special forces has to have prior experience in the military to join in the U.S. |
