Is there anything we can do..my husband is having a terrible time at work?

Okay, this is a long story, however I will briefly explain it. My husband volunteered for honor guard last year. He wasn't supposed to get deployed, but volunteered to go on one last year during Christmas time. Since he got back he had to finish up his commitment to honor guard so he has not been back to his normal shop. He talked to them a few days ago because he was re enlisting, and his boss told him that he will be on the grave yard shift when he returns. It's a little strange because they do not make schedules until the week before, and he is not returning for about three weeks. He has recently started school, and signed up for evening classes so it wouldn't conflict with work because he always used to work days. Plus, Im working a day job as well now. They will not and are not willing to let him work days again, and there are around 5 new guys in the shop so it dosn't make sense. Also, we are moving on base and are going through a foreclosure/bankruptcy. We haven't told anyone about it yet because we haven't filed yet, but my husband is going to talk to a higher up. Well, as soon as his shops tech sergent found out he went and looked up our house on the foreclosure websites along with almost everyone else in his shop...and we didn't even tell them anything. They think it is one big joke, and it's really embarrassing. Anyway, I can't stand how things are going and my husband can not focus on his job because he is so stressed out. Another guy at his work made comments on how we need to divorce because I'm too fat, and said some more things too that were not true. I feel like my husband and I can not live our lives without these people talking, and we hardly know any of them. What can we do, if anything?

How can he take it up the chain of command when his tech sgt is the one leading the pack in trying to find our home on a website? And, his supervisor is the one who spoke about me being fat!

Wow, and all these Air Force Pogues constantly speaking about their constant level of professionalism...nice.

You can take it up with his chain of command and file a complaint. The Tech SGT is deeply in the wrong concerning this one and should be reprimanded. I wish you the best of luck.

EDIT- Then you take it up to the next level hon. You continue going up the next level until someone takes action. Someone will, even in the freakin Air Force. Just be persistent and document EVERYTHING with times, dates, comments and anything else going on with this situation.

The first thing I would say to you, and this is not negative criticism towards you or your husband at all, is that you shouldn't care so much about what everyone else has to say. Yes, foreclosure is stressful, and yes, it's embarrassing, but don't let anyone give you any flak for it because millions of people are in the exact same position right now.

Second, the chain of command is specifically designed to correct this kind of thing. If you're complaint is with a Tech Sergeant or his supervisor, you just move one notch up on the chain and make a complaint. Make sure to document each step and continue along until this receives resolution.

Third, the Tech Sergeant and his supervisor are both in the wrong. Entirely and ridiculously in the wrong and they both need to be counseled for their actions. Just follow the chain of command and you'll be in good shape.

You said your husband just reenlisted, so he is at least a SRA, maybe a new SSGT.

Everyone has to work night shift at some point.

Why do you expect everyone else to have to, but not your husband ?

New guys, won't be doing the same job as your husband, they aren't even trained yet.

Get used to it, shifht work is a fact of life in the Air Force.

But as soon as the AF officially finds out about the foreclosure, your husbands security clearance will be history.

Which means if hes in aircraft maintenece, he will be history soon afterwards.

The gossip at work is because someone told them about you moving and I would bet it was him. What he is saying to you sounds fishy.

Why are you listening to the guys at his work? They don't count in your life. They sound like mean mouthed creeps so ignore them and be happy to be with your husband.

If he is telling you these things I would ask him why he wants to hurt your feelings.

as far as the shifts: sorry but what the military needs you to do over rules what you or your spouse want. it also over rides school, he'll have to switch or ditch his classes.

as for **** talking: thats normal in the military. cant really do anything about it, hope your husband is think skinned.

sounds like his NCO has his nose a bit too far up your hubby's personal business, he should take it up his CoC.

First, obviously he has to try to work out the issues with his supervisors. Sounds like he already has, but has he talked to the next higher up? Have they talked in private? The issue here is that they are placing him under extra stress where he can't handle it for the time being.

The chain of command goes up all the way to his commanding officer. There are many (hopefully) reasonable people in between that can resolve this. The TSgt has a boss, and his boss has a boss.

You also underestimate the power of the military spouse. If normal channels have been exhausted, it's time to throw off the gloves. You risk out casting him, but what other options are there? The command should have an ombudsman, talk to him/her. If all else fails, you can talk to the commanding officer of the unit. Yes, you as a spouse can do this (you're a civilian). By this point he should have talked to everyone in between, but he can also request mast. Although I doubt the CO will personally do anything, it WILL get everyone's attention. Even the mention of mast might be enough.

Keep telling yourself that those idiots brought this situation to this point, not you or your husband.

Remind everyone that your husband may "be on the fence" as to reenlisting. Initial enlistment, when you write your contract, and reenlistment, are the only two times you have em by the balls.

"Another guy at his work made comments on how we need to divorce because I'm too fat"
Who did you hear that from and why did they tell you?? Your husband??
Why?
He seems like a high maintenance guy at work, and you want him to get the preferred shift?
Your husband talks too much about his "work", its not helpful
