Actually yes there are alot of programs for spouses. One of the biggest changes in educational benefits is the ability to pass on our Montgomery GI Bill to our family members. Your military spouse can authorize you to use a certain percentage of his or her college benefits. Also, go to MilitaryOneSource.com to learn about several college grants and tuition programs available to you. Don't let these people tell you that you have not options as there are a ton of programs out there for you and your children if you have any. Another source of information is your spouses battalion Family Readiness Group leader they have several contacts and links for information on this topic as well as the base education services office. Best of luck to you! |

If you are a military dependent, you are considered a resident of the state you are stationed in with your husband. My wife was considered a resident when I got stationed in Camp Lejuene and got resident rates at UNC in Wilmington.
I suggest going to the education center on base and finding out your options for school, scholarships and grants. However, there are strict requirements, they just don't hand them out because you are a dependent. You will have to qualify like any other prospective college applicant.
EDIT: Chris Pascale (below) mentions the GI Bill for spouses.....however, you only qualify for that once your husband has served 10 years or has served 6 years with another 4 year contract signed. |

Go to militaryonesource.com and ask one of the counselors on there. I've heard that there was going to be a program starting this month to help with education assistance and job placement but haven't heard many details. If you go to that sight there is also a number listed that you can call and talk to someone about it. If they don't have the answer to your question they should be able to point you in the right direction. |

To answer your question about the GI Bill, yes your husband has to serve a set amount of time before he qualifies to pass certain incentives to you in the GI Bill. He has to have served 6 years with a 4 year contract signed or 10+ years. If your husband has done this so far, he can pass benefits around Aug 09 to you. Fresh enlistees do not qualify to give the GI Bill to their dependents instantly, they want years of commitment first. Too many people are confused and think that this bill is available for all spouses, it isn't. Only the dependents that have had their spouse serve a certain amount of time. |

Check the base education center they sometimes have scholarships and grants that apply for spouses.
Check with the school you want to attend usually if you show your ID along with a copy of your husbands orders they will give in state tuition fees. |

Check these websites that have info about military spouse education:
https://aiportal.acc.af.mil/mycaa/User/Spouse/searchGoal.aspx
http://www.military.com/money-for-school/spouse-family/military-spouse-and-family-educational-assistance-programs
It depends on what you want to go to school for and where at. Also, look into military colleges, like UMUC or Saint Leo's, who are there to help military actives persue college careers. They have been helping me (I am a Navy Wife) finish my schooling! They will work with you!
Good luck! |

no you will probably have to join the military for the education benefits. |

No. The only thing you can try for is a grant or scholarship or something along that line. The military values your commitment to your spouse and their service, but unfortunately that is as far as it goes. |
