My son got a 84 on the ASVAB with a 128 for GT and a 122 on CO, the recruiter said it was good but I would like to know from other people that have took the test. He is hoping to sign a 18X contract.

He is 23 years old.

There are other aspects to being able to obtain an 18X contract such as clean background and age. The score he currently has is far exceeding the 110GT requirment for an 18X contract. Any GT over 110 is going to give him about anything he wishes from the US Army. |

That is an excellent score, he can do almost anything he wants to do. The 128 GT is very important because they require a 110 to become an officer.
I would like to suggest he look in to a job that he can use outside of the military and one where he can get a security clearance. |

A minimum of 110 in aptitude area GT, and 100 in aptitude area CO is required for Special Forces so I would say he is definitely good to go in that regard. There are a lot of other criteria though for the Special Forces enlistment option.
If he does make it be sure to tell him never to forget there are pogue 92A's with much, much higher scores in all regard though lol. |

Yes. That is a very good score. Those scores more than qualify him as you only need a GT of 107 & Combat score of 98 or higher. As long as he doesn't have any law violations or delinquent debt that would deter him from obtaining a secret security clearance. As far as his age (you didn't mention), I believe they have recently changed the requirements from 17-30 to 20 y.o. to 30 due to the washout rate for candidates between the age of 17-19. But I'm not sure if that's concrete yet. I am a recruiter & our pamphlets say 17 & up, but on the www.goarmy.com site, it says 20-30. That is a very good score. I only scored 69. I was able to choose anything I wanted. The math/mechanical portion was the hard part for me.
Most people only score between 40-50 somewhere. He scored better than average. He should have no problem. Be proud of him because you have a smart kid. He should be able to get a good school with a score like that. Encourage him to get a good school. |
