Honey, you've heard of free speech right? How in the USA you are allowed to criticize the government without fear of retribution? You can right anything you want. As long as it isn't about a real person and is a lie about that person (thats called slander). |

Yep you are right it's dumb, but it is legal! Freedom of Speech! |
|

?

no,it's not illegal
but just because it's not illegal doesn't mean your words don't have consequences. |

God, I hope not. I think we still have the right to free speech here. |

Not at all. Your character can say anything he wants. YOU can say anything like that YOU want to, even in real life - as long as you aren't in uniform when you do it.
That's what freedom of speech is all about. |

Technically its not illegal but it goes against everything we as Americans believe. Fighting is not always the answer but in some cases it is and the men and women over seas are not just fighting for their country but yours too. They are doing this to protect your future as well as the future of your family. |

Nope. It's called freedom of speech. And those who earn the honor you insult are the ones who defend your right to say it. |

It's legal. But your story has no honor. Where as the Men and Women in uniform have Honor.
Perhaps you should enlist, that way you can write about something you know. |

No it's called Freedom of Speech. Brought to them by the very soldiers that they are trashing.
You can say whatever you want in the US as long as it doesn't threaten anybody. Also brought to them by the soldiers they trash.
They are honorable because they put their lives in war for us. They don't just kill people, they kill the enemy that wants to kill you with all his being. Violence doesn't settle personal things, political and national is a different story. (I realize you aren't necessarily saying those things, I'm just clarifying what they are compared to our nation). |

1st amendment, you can say what you want so long as it doesn't incite riots or cause chaos.
Yes, that's perfectly legal, countless books and media exist depicting the above opinion. |

American Citizens have the right to assert their opinions on just about anything.
The 1st Amendment in the United States Constitution quaranties the right of the people to free speech. However, not all speech is protected under the First Amendment.
Certain types of speech that is not protected might be libelous claims, such as saying something that isn't true about someone. Yelling fire in a crowded movie theater when there isn't actually a fire is a common example of speech that isn't protected.
Now, having said that, your opinions, or opinions of your character, would be protected. Americans do have the right to speak up agains government actions that they don't agree with. That was the underlying principle when the Founding Fathers wrote the United States Constitution.
However, I would severly disagree with your statement about fighting in the war is not honorable. Many people have paid the ultimate sacrifice (death) to allow America to be where it is today. Without these sacrifices, where would the United States be today. Freedom isn't free.
You could argue that fighting in Iraq has little to do with supporting your constitutional rights, but most people don't look at the big picture.
Without bringing the war to the terrorists, they would more likely bring it to us. This would cause damage and death to Americans on our soil.
Without fighting for the little guy (Iraqi's), who is going to stand up for them? Where would the newly founded United States of America have been was it not for the aid of France? If you remember your history lesson, the French came to the aid of our soldiers during the Revolutionary war and helped us to win.
But back to your question. If you feel that the war is stupid. You have the right to say so. You cannot be jailed or fined for that. You can have other people rebuke you for your opinions. It's their right as well. |

You can say what you like, but that won't stop the politicians from carrying out their war plans. If you were not referring to the USA, but rather a place like China, then you might indeed be charged and imprisoned for views against the government of that country. America lets you say what you want and cares not. |

This is a free country where you are able to express your opinions in any way shape or form you desire as long as it does not infringe on another persons rights |
