Joining the Military?
|
My previous question was whether I should join the Air Force or not. I am enrolled with community college but my problem is that I live with my aunt, and I have no where else to move out to, nor do I have a job, so I thought that joining the military would help me. I'm having trouble to pay for my community college as well. That is what made me think about it in the first place. Additional Details I'm also thinking about the experience I could get out of it after 4 years, and maybe if I like it I could go for another 4 years.

Well if you join, you'll get to live in the barracks for nothing (air force has nicer barracks to), and they'll pay all schooling if you want to continue your college courses.
If you do decide to get out in 4 years.... your resume will be packed with real world experience doing something worthwhile. Or, you may like it enough to stay in after your initial enlistment.... could be a good career for you once you see it |

The Air Force is one of the best branches to join. The number one thing that is going to matter the most is the job you pick. Be careful about what recruiters says most of them are liers. It's not as easy as they make it to be. There will be a lot of up and down days. And the Military is designed as a Win-Lose most of the time organization with no real Human Relationship or Respect unless you have rank. But there are positives. The pros are -Money -alot of time off (4 Day weekends once a month for DONSA) -benefits. The Cons -getting yelled at for things you didn't do or didn't know. -Going to the field - working late. -dealing with BS on a daily basis. I'm currently in the Army and I have many family members in the air force that i visit and the air force is 100 times better then the army could ever be. So the best thing would be to join the Air Force but if you can't handle yelling sometimes, working really late sometimes, not seeing your family, if you want a relationship with someone it most likely wont work due to the amount of deployments and the war moving to Afghanistan. Dont Join you will hate it. Unless you join AF Reserves. And if you choose to join pick a job you like becuase you will not be able to change it for at least 2 years and to change it you will have to add more time on your contract.

I believe that having a background in the military is fantastic for you and your peers. You need to find out what you want to do or what you would enjoy doing in the military. Also, keep in mind that you may enjoy staying in the military until you reach retirement age but first look at the branch of service. Look into Navy, Army, Marines and Air Force to see what options are available to you.
Keep the Officers Candidate School on the top of your wants because it is great and you will go far as an Officer.
I would also stay in school until you get at least an AA degree. Good luck and I think you will enjoy the experience. I did... |

The military can provide you with many meaningful experiences. You will do things that you never thought that you could do and you will be put into leadership positions that most of your peers (the same age) will not experience. The Air Force has great educational programs as well. I would see about taking the asvab and seeing what the Air Force has to offer. Just be sure about what you are doing before you sign anything. However, I never really heard too many airmen complain about serving. Good luck and make sure that you talk to as many people as you can. |

Humans get married for the health insurance benefit only to find they hate each other in 7 months. The military is a bit different. Sit down with all of yourself and find out what you love, what you seek, what you desire and once you know the answer then you will have the answer to this question. |

Best bet is to talk to a recruiter. Just because you ask them questions, doesn't mean you are automatically signed up. Just don't waste his or her time, they do have quota's to meet.
Ask your questions, get your answers. think about it. Explore other branches of the military too. But don't ask the same recruiter about a different branch, go find that branch's recruiter lol. they will lie to you.
hint: if it sounds too good to be true in the military, then it is. |

If you are looking to be able to hold your head up and make your own way in life then yes the military is a way to go. Just remember, it's a commitment. Sounds like you are footloose and fancy free so I think you'd make a great veteran someday. |

It's certainly a good option. You get paid training, educational benefits, room and board, and world experience you won't get at home.
It's not always easy (and we're involved in several conflicts, so you may go overseas) but there are a lot of benefits to military service. |
