Joining the Paratroopers soon?
|
Hi. I'm 15 right now and leaving school next year. I'm set on joining the paras, but I don't have a clue what the fitness requirements are or how/when to start training! Any help would be appreciated, but nobody please come and try to talk me out of it. It's what I dream to do. Additional Details I'm from Scotland, in the UK.

im 15 in a few weeks and im thinking of joining the Parachute regiment too next year too.
go down to your AFCO/ACIO and have a quick chat with them. they will give you information about the Parachute regt.
http://www.army.mod.uk/3471.aspx (parachute regt site)
1) go to your local AFCO/ACIO and tell them that you are ready to join
2) you will enter a BARB test which will test your skills.
3) ADSC - Army Development and Selection Centre, in ADSC you will go through a series of fitness test which include a 1.5 mile run, heaves, press ups and sit ups. for the Parachute regiment the time is 9:18 for the 1.5 mile run. BUT if you joining as junior entry then you will have the time in 14:00.
you will have a interview at the end of this. and an oath
4) if you are going in as junior entry then you will be required to go to AFC Harrogate http://www.army.mod.uk/training_education/training/7127.aspx
which is a 42 week course where they train you to be a soldier. this is Phase 1 of basic training
Phase 2 is where you go to ITC catterick and you will do the extra weeks and then go onto P company.
if you are not going in as junior entry then you will go straight to ITC catterick and do the 28 week infantrymen's course there. BTW AFC Harrogate pay you £10,000 for the 42 week course.
5) after your Phase 1 training there will be a passing out parade.
6) period of leave for about 2 weeks then onto Phase 2
7) phase 2 training
you can also go on this site and chat to a live recruitor but it is better to go to your AFCO/ACIO . http://www.armyonline.mod.uk/
good luck mate hope to see you soon, email me if ya have any probs.
sorry if anything is confusing, some dikhead got my other account deleted.
DO NOT run with weights on your back, only do it when you join the Army as they will build you up for it. but as gavin R said, pressups and situps until you can do them asleep |

UK, aussie, or US?
brit or ausie i coudlnt tell you. ive hung out with guys from those units but never really asked about their training.
US: join the army, go through basic, go through whatever MOS school u want, go to airborne school. the fitness requirements are just the normal army APFT for 17-21 year olds and doing a chin up and holding it for 10 seconds or so...its easy. and ofcourse making it through airborne school but thats what you need to get in. |
