Joining the marines - how to get my family and friend behind me?

First suggestion is to sit and talk with them about your wants and desires. Then educate them on your decision. Show them the benefits and opportunities that will be available to you to help you achieve your goals. Then take them with you to meet with your recruiters. They can get the answers to the questions and myths that are keeping them from supporting you in your decision. If none of this works and you still want to join.. then do it.. your family will support you even if they dislike your decision. And if your friends don't support you then maybe there aren't that good of friends to begin with. You join the service because it is what you want. You have to make the life decision on your own sometimes. Best of luck to you in whatever you do.

As a marine you will be able to show your determination. Try to show some now, once they know you will not change your mind they will at least accept your decision. I have know many whose families were anti-mitlitary. They do not change, but they do accept.

tell them what the marines has to offer, money and what not and tell them that you truly want to help serve your country. I have a few friends over seas, some did it because they didn't think they were good at anything else and others wanted a more exciting career. What ever it is make sure it's for real because we ARE at war and telling that to anyone will make them hesitate

wait 2 years 18 is to young. get some adult time under your belt then if you still want to enlist.

Tell them everything about the Marines you can think about it. Most people think you just run around with a gun and shoot things. Explain it in more detail to them and they will probably be more accepting.......

It will certainly give you a jump start into your future. You'll be independent and obtain lots of skills that are desirable in the civilian work force. They probably won't be on board with your decision until they see how well you are doing. Also, if you haven't yet check to see what all the other branches could offer you. This way at least you know you've made the absolute best choice. You'll want to be 100% behind whatever decision you make.
